Summer is the most popular time to explore in and around Gatineau Park, one of the most visited conservation areas in the national capital region, and reservations around Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24 and Canada Day on July 1 book up quickly. The area near Ottawa is very busy on those long weekends. September brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and lighter crowds. Early autumn provides the best combination of pleasant weather and low traffic, with one exception: dense weekend crowds in October when fall colours peak. Winter sees most campgrounds close, though Gatineau Park maintains some cold-weather, ready-to-camp accommodations accessible by ski or snowshoe.

Expect a mix of serviced and rustic sites. Fitzroy Provincial Park has over 200 campsites across two campgrounds, Pine Grove and Two Rivers, with waterfront sites on the Carp and Ottawa Rivers, some electrical sites in each campground, and water taps, comfort stations, and laundry facilities centrally located. There are no full-hookup sites at Fitzroy, but a dump station is available on site. Gatineau Park's Lac Philippe sector recently completed a major upgrade. The campground offers an amphitheatre, a multi-purpose pavilion, a kitchen shelter, and a convenience store, with sites for tents, trailers, and canoe-camping, plus ready-to-camp units and fully equipped mini-chalets with electricity. A central sani-dump serves RVs and trailers. Alcohol is permitted only at registered campsites and designated picnic areas in Gatineau Park. Black bears are present across the region, so food storage rules apply. Cell coverage is generally reliable near villages and weaker deep inside park interiors.
