Campgrounds and RV parks near Kamloops, BC

Fishing drives much of the region's camping traffic. The waters of Lac Le Jeune are known for rainbow trout, and Roche Lake and the surrounding lakes are considered world class trout fishing lakes, with activities including fishing, hiking, cycling, wildlife viewing, rock climbing and ATV-ing. Paddleboards, kayaks and small aluminum boats all get used heavily on Paul Lake, Lac Le Jeune and Roche Lake through the warm months. On land, hiking is easy to fit into a day. Paul Lake has more than 7 km of hiking trails, and one route climbs through a mature Douglas-fir forest to the top of Gibraltar Rock, which offers views of the lake and Harper Mountain. In town, families use the BC Wildlife Park, the riverfront trails and Sun Peaks Resort (about 45 minutes north) for mountain biking and chairlift rides.

The provincial-park season is short. Lac Le Jeune runs with full services roughly from mid-May to the end of September, and in the off-season only self-contained units are permitted, the sani-station is closed, and no fee or services apply. The park gate closes when the lake freezes or roads become unsafe from ice or snow, and reopens once ice is off and roads are clear. Paul Lake follows a similar summer operating pattern and, per BC Parks, fills up quickly, so arriving early matters. Roche Lake is more rustic. Roche Lake North accommodates tents, trailers and RVs and is in full operation between May and October, with the campground accessible year-round but services not guaranteed. During winter the Lac Le Jeune area is used for cross-country skiing with no vehicle access. Summer heat and wildfire risk shape trip planning. Campfire bans are common from mid-July through August across the Kamloops Fire Centre, and smoke from regional fires can affect visibility and air quality. Shoulder-season trips in May, June and September usually see fewer crowds and cooler nights.

The Kamloops valley is dry and open, with sagebrush hillsides and hot summer afternoons, but nearby campgrounds sit in noticeably cooler, treed pockets. Paul Lake and Lac Le Jeune feel completely different from the surrounding grasslands: quiet, forested settings with lake access. Expect a mix of shaded and open sites, gravel pads, and pit or flush toilets depending on the park. Hookups vary. Silver Sage Campground and Kamloops RV Park cater to RVs with serviced sites, while pit toilets and cold-water taps (only on when the campground is in full operation) are what you'll find at Roche Lake West. Sani-stations are available at Paul Lake and Lac Le Jeune. Bring bug spray for shoulder-season evenings, a bear-aware food storage plan, and firewood cash. Road access to Roche Lake is gravel and rough in spots, so larger trailers and low-clearance RVs are better suited to Paul Lake, Lac Le Jeune, or the in-town parks.
