Campgrounds and RV parks near Two Hills, AB

Lake recreation drives most trips in this region. Garner Lake Provincial Park is suited to canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming, with walking and cycling trails, a playground, showers, fish cleaning stands, picnic shelters and a sewage dump area. Kehiwin Provincial Recreation Area is a small campground along the shores of Kehiwin Lake, with basic tree-shaded sites and a boat launch, pier and fish cleaning stand for anglers. Metis Crossing, on the Victoria Trail south of Smoky Lake, offers a cultural centre, gift shop, campground, boat launch and comfort-camping trappers tents. In Vegreville, families can fish the stocked trout pond and visit the World's Largest Pysanka, with the visitor centre offering a Borrow-A-Bike Program, walking trails and accessible playground.

The camping season in east-central Alberta is short and concentrated. Most municipal and provincial campgrounds operate from the May long weekend through mid-September. The Vegreville Elks-Kinsmen Municipal Campground is open May through early September, and Metis Crossing typically runs late spring through fall. Winter shuts down most campgrounds entirely; access roads are not maintained for RVs, and frozen plumbing means no water service. Wildfire smoke can affect air quality in mid- to late summer, and fire bans may restrict campfires during dry stretches.

Sites in this region range from basic gravel pads to fully serviced hookups. The Vegreville municipal campground has 87 sites, including 15 tent-only sites and 37 electric-only sites with 30-amp power, plus concession, day use area, dump station, firewood, flush toilets, showers, picnic area and visitor centre. Smoky Lake Golf Course and RV Park offers full-service sites alongside an on-site golf course. Metis Crossing provides powered and non-powered RV sites, tenting, showers, washrooms, picnic tables, fire pits and firewood for sale. Provincial sites such as Garner Lake and Kehiwin are more rustic, with basic and power sites, pit or vault toilets, and limited cell coverage. At Garner Lake, firewood is purchased by the tote (cash only) and showers are coin-operated. At Kehiwin, firewood is not available; this helps stop the spread of forest pests, Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer, so plan to buy local wood en route and burn it on site. Potable water is not available at Kehiwin.
