The Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site Campground doubles as the area's main heritage attraction. Visitors can explore wild bison viewing, roughly 10 km of hiking and biking trails, interactive exhibits, and the archaeological remains of four fur-trade forts along the North Saskatchewan River. Families enjoy the play fort, interpretive programs, and heritage stays in tipis, Métis trapper tents, and trapline cabins. At Crimson Lake Provincial Park, families use the sandy beach, boat launch, and a network of trails. Twin Lakes offers fishing and boating, with a 12 km/hr speed limit that keeps the water quiet. Cow Lake adds beach access and ice fishing in winter, and the broader Clearwater County area opens up OHV trails and access to the David Thompson Highway corridor.

Peak camping season runs from mid-May through September. Crimson Lake Provincial Park opens for peak season camping in mid-May, and bookings begin 90 days prior to arrival. Sites at Crimson Lake and Cow Lake fill quickly on summer weekends and around long weekends, so booking at the start of the rolling window is recommended. Shoulder seasons bring quieter sites but cooler nights and the chance of late or early snow. From late September, Crimson Lake transitions to first come, first served winter camping. All other loops and group sites close for the fall and winter, Loop B sites have 15 amp power but no water service, and showers and the dump station are not available in the off season. Winter visitors can take in ice fishing, skating on maintained rinks, and groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The campground has potable water spigots in season, a sanitary dump station, modern restrooms, two playgrounds, a laundry area, and an amphitheatre. The Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site campground is unserviced for RVs, with shared washrooms and showers and access to a covered day-use area. Maximum stay is 14 nights. Expect mosquitoes near lakes and wetlands in June and July, black-bear country protocols at all campgrounds, and cool nights even in midsummer.
