Brigus itself is a compact, walkable heritage town. The Brigus Tunnel, hand-cut through solid rock in 1860 by Cornish miner John Hoskins for Captain Abram Bartlett, remains one of the town's most-visited stops, along with Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site, the family home of Arctic explorer Captain Robert Bartlett. Short coastal walks lead out to Brigus Lighthouse with views over Conception Bay. The surrounding area rewards day trips. Cupids, just minutes away, is the site of one of the earliest English settlements in Canada, founded in 1610, and hosts the Cupids Legacy Centre. Butter Pot Provincial Park has an extensive trail network centred on Pegwood Junction, with routes climbing to a lookout over Butter Pot Hill. Whale-watching, puffin, and iceberg boat tours run out of Bay Bulls and St. John's within an hour's drive.

The camping season on the eastern Avalon is short. Butter Pot Provincial Park operates from mid-May to mid-September, and most private parks in the Conception Bay area follow a similar May-to-October window. Outside those dates, expect closed gates, unserviced sites, and unpredictable weather. Late May and early June bring the peak iceberg-viewing window along the Avalon coast, when bergs drifting south from Greenland occasionally reach the waters off St. John's and Bay Bulls before melting out. Whale sightings ramp up in June and hit their peak in July and August as humpbacks follow capelin into the bays. Puffins nest at the nearby Witless Bay Ecological Reserve from roughly May through August. July and August are the mildest months and the busiest. The Brigus Blueberry Festival runs each August and draws heavy day-trip traffic. Shoulder-season camping in September offers cooler nights, thinner crowds, and residual whale activity, but Atlantic hurricane remnants can occasionally track over the island between August and October.

Sites at Butter Pot are unserviced: there are no water, electric, or sewer hookups at individual sites, but a trailer dump station sits near the park staff cabin and two wheelchair-accessible comfort stations offer showers and laundry. Water taps and outhouses are located throughout the park. Sites are back-in, spacious, and set among spruce and fir. Dogs are allowed on leash. Private parks in the Brigus and Holyrood area generally offer serviced sites suitable for larger rigs, with the closest fuel, groceries, and restaurants in Holyrood, Bay Roberts, and Brigus itself. Weather changes fast on the Avalon. Pack layers, waterproof gear, and expect fog, wind, and rain even in midsummer. Cell coverage is reliable near the highway corridor and thins on side roads.
