Campgrounds near Milan, Michigan
Milan sits in southeastern Michigan between Ann Arbor and Monroe, roughly a 20 minute drive south of Ann Arbor via US-23. The area is flat farmland cut by the River Raisin, and it puts RV travelers within easy reach of Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Toledo without paying urban campground rates.
Private campgrounds dominate the immediate area. K C Campgrounds, on Sherman Road just outside town, welcomes big rigs and hosts the annual Milan Bluegrass Festival. River Raisin Canoe Livery adds paddling access on the water itself, while Detroit / Ann Arbor KOA Holiday in nearby Ypsilanti provides full-hookup pull-throughs and standardized KOA amenities. Indian Creek Camp and Conference Center in Tecumseh and Pirolli Park RV Resort round out the choices for families and longer stays.
Public camping is not in Milan proper. The nearest state-run options sit at Sterling State Park on Lake Erie and the Waterloo and Pinckney recreation areas west of Ann Arbor, all bookable through the Michigan DNR reservation system.
Things to do around Milan
The River Raisin is the local draw. River Raisin Canoe Livery rents boats for float trips through farmland and woodlots, and the River Raisin National Battlefield Park in Monroe covers the War of 1812 engagements fought along the same watercourse.
Ann Arbor is 20 minutes north and delivers the University of Michigan campus, the Museum of Natural History, Kerrytown, and Big House game days in fall. Detroit and its museums, including the Henry Ford in Dearborn, are under an hour east. Toledo Zoo sits about 40 minutes south across the Ohio line.
For outdoor days, the Waterloo and Pinckney recreation areas west of Ann Arbor offer swimming lakes, mountain-bike singletrack, and hiking on the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail. Lake Erie beaches at Sterling State Park are the closest sand.

The southeast Michigan camping season runs roughly from April through October, with most private campgrounds around Milan closing for winter. May through early October covers the reliable window for RV travel, and shoulder-season nights in April and late October can drop below freezing.
Summer is peak. June through August delivers warm days in the low 80s Fahrenheit with afternoon thunderstorms and higher humidity. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book out first, and the Milan Bluegrass Festival at K C Campgrounds fills that property well in advance. Reserve at least six to eight weeks ahead for summer Saturdays.
Fall brings crisp air, hardwood color across southern Michigan peaking in mid-October, and lighter crowds. Winter camping is limited to a small number of year-round private parks and select state recreation areas with electric sites kept open for cold-weather RVers.

How to book a campsite near Milan
Private campgrounds around Milan take reservations directly. K C Campgrounds, Detroit / Ann Arbor KOA Holiday, Indian Creek Camp and Conference Center, and Pirolli Park RV Resort all book by phone or through their own websites, and KOA also accepts bookings through the KOA app. Deposits are typical for summer weekends and holidays.
For Michigan state parks and recreation areas such as Sterling, Waterloo, and Pinckney, reservations go through the Michigan DNR reservation system at midnrreservations.com or by phone at 1-800-44-PARKS. The booking window opens six months to the day before arrival on a rolling basis, and popular summer weekends can sell out within minutes of the window opening. State forest campgrounds are generally first-come, first-served.
What to expect on the ground

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Milan, MI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Milan, Michigan?
RV rental in Milan, Michigan is one of the most affordable ways to explore southeastern Michigan, with most travel trailers and pop-ups starting around $75 to $125 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $150 to $250 per night. Prices peak from late June through Labor Day when nearby Lake Erie beaches and Ann Arbor football weekends drive demand, so booking in May or September can save you 20 to 30 percent. For a cheap RV rental in Milan, filter by travel trailers with delivery to skip the towing learning curve, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: midweek pickups (Monday or Tuesday) often unlock lower nightly rates from local hosts.
michigan.org/article/trip-idea/rv-camping-in-michiganDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Milan, MI?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Milan, MI for nearly every motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on the platform. Michigan does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every Class B, Class C, travel trailer, and most Class A motorhomes you'll find listed. Renters generally need to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right through RVezy during booking. The only Michigan-specific quirk is a Recreational Double 'R' endorsement if you're towing a fifth wheel plus an additional trailer, which is extremely rare for vacation renters.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat kind of protection is included with my Milan RV rental?
Every RV rental in Milan booked through RVezy comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit I-275 or US-23 with real peace of mind. During checkout you'll choose your renter protection level, which helps cover physical damage to the RV so a stray branch at Sterling State Park or a fender bump at a Monroe gas station doesn't derail your trip. Roadside help is just a phone call away, day or night. While this isn't traditional auto insurance, RVezy's protection plans give renters substantial financial peace of mind. Most first-time renters tell us this is the single biggest reason they felt confident pressing 'book.'
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Milan RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Milan is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, so you'll get consistent, fair treatment no matter which listing you choose. There's a full money-back grace period after booking, and if a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. Specific refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel and your trip dates, so review the current policy during checkout on RVezy's site. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates, knowing you have a cushion to adjust if life happens.

Lake Hudson State Recreation Area, about an hour west, also welcomes leashed pets. michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to me in Milan or nearby campgrounds?
Yes, RV delivery Milan is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to your campsite at William C. Sterling State Park in Monroe, Lake Hudson State Recreation Area, or even your driveway in Milan, Saline, or Ann Arbor, then handle the leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough so you're truly ready to relax. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, and many hosts include free delivery within 20 to 30 miles. Pro tip: book delivery to Sterling State Park so you can step out of your car and straight onto the Lake Erie beach, no towing required.
michigan.gov/recsearch/parks/sterlingHow does mileage work for an RV road trip from Milan?
Most hosts offer between 100 and 150 free miles per night, with additional miles typically running 35 to 50 cents each, and some hosts on RVezy offer RV rental with unlimited mileage which is a smart pick for longer journeys. From Milan you're perfectly positioned: Detroit is about 40 miles north, Ann Arbor just 20 miles, Toledo 30 miles south, Frankenmuth around 100 miles, and Sleeping Bear Dunes about 270 miles northwest. A weekend RV road trip from Milan to Holland State Park on Lake Michigan clocks in around 380 miles round trip. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning to chase Michigan's Great Lakes coast across multiple stops.
michigan.org/things-to-do/road-tripsWhere are the best campgrounds near Milan, Michigan?
You've got fantastic RV camping Milan options within a short drive. KC Campground, just outside Milan on Sherman Road, has full hookups, a pool, and a fishing lake and is open April through November. William C. Sterling State Park in Monroe (about 20 minutes south) is the only Michigan state park on Lake Erie, with 256 modern sites and a mile of sandy beach. Detroit/Greenfield KOA Holiday in Ypsilanti offers full hookups and easy I-94 access. Apple Creek Resort & RV Park in Grass Lake is another local favorite with full hookups and family activities. Pro tip: state park sites release six months ahead on midnrreservations.com, so set a reminder for prime summer weekends.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/camping-and-lodgingWhen is the best time of year for a Milan RV trip?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a Milan RV trip, when daytime highs run from the mid-60s°F to low 80s°F and southeastern Michigan really shines. June and July bring warm, humid days perfect for Lake Erie beach time at Sterling State Park, while September delivers cooler nights, fewer bugs, and the start of Michigan's famous fall color tour. October is gorgeous for foliage drives along the Huron River and through the Irish Hills, with daytime highs in the 50s and 60s. Winters are cold (highs in the 30s, lows in the teens), and many campgrounds close November through March. Pro tip: book a mid-September trip for the perfect mix of warm days, crisp evenings, and uncrowded campgrounds.
weather.gov/dtx/I've never rented an RV before. How does the pickup process work in Milan?
First time renting an RV in Milan? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, typically 30 to 60 minutes, where they'll show you how to operate the generator, hookups, slide-outs, water system, and propane, plus answer every question you have. You can message your host directly through the platform before your trip to ask anything that's on your mind. Many Milan-area hosts also offer delivery and setup, so the RV arrives ready to enjoy. Pro tip: take a short practice drive around the quiet country roads near Milan (try the area around Cone Road or Plank Road) before heading out on US-23 so you feel confident behind the wheel.
michigan.gov/sos/all-services/driver-educationWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is always close at hand. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so whether you have a flat tire on I-94, a dead battery at KC Campground, or a lockout in downtown Ann Arbor, one phone call gets professional help dispatched. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip for any non-mechanical questions. Your host is typically just a message away too and knows their RV inside and out. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate, which makes any service call faster.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Milan RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is absolutely allowed and Milan's location makes it ideal: you're 30 miles from the Ohio border, a few hours from Indiana, and right next door to Windsor, Ontario. Cross-border travel into Canada is permitted on many RVezy rentals, but you'll need to confirm with your host before booking since insurance coverage and host preferences vary. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals. Popular interstate routes from Milan include Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio (90 minutes), the Indiana Dunes (3 hours), and Niagara Falls via Ontario (about 4.5 hours). Pro tip: if you're heading to Canada, bring your passport and let your host know your full itinerary at booking so everything is squared away.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage should I plan for, and what are gas prices like near Milan?
Plan ahead and you'll be fine. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans hit 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG combined). Michigan gas prices have been elevated in 2026, hovering between $4.00 and $4.85 per gallon for regular unleaded, so budget around $250 to $400 for fuel on a typical 500 to 700 mile Michigan loop. Milan has convenient fill-ups along US-23 at the Plank Road exit, and Monroe's truck-friendly stations on I-75 are great for larger rigs. Pro tip: use GasBuddy to spot cheaper stations in Dundee or Monroe, which often come in 10 to 20 cents lower than Ann Arbor.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=MIHow far in advance should I book a campground near Milan?
Michigan state park campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance through midnrreservations.com, and that's exactly when prime summer weekends at William C. Sterling State Park and nearby Lake Hudson State Recreation Area get snapped up. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, set a calendar reminder for the six-month-out release date (new inventory drops Monday through Friday at 8 AM ET). Private campgrounds like KC Campground in Milan and Apple Creek Resort take reservations directly and tend to open booking even earlier for the season. Pro tip: if your top pick is full, use the reservation system's notification feature to get alerted when cancellations free up sites.
midnrreservations.com/What are local driving conditions like around Milan, MI?
Driving an RV around Milan is refreshingly easy. Milan sits at the crossroads of US-23 and M-50 in flat, gently rolling farmland with wide lanes, generous shoulders, and very little of the steep grades or tight switchbacks that intimidate new RVers. The main thing to watch is I-94 and I-275 traffic heading into Detroit and Ann Arbor during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM), and the occasional low railroad underpass in older neighborhoods, so stick to numbered highways. Winter can bring lake-effect snow squalls between November and March. Pro tip: download Michigan DOT's Mi Drive app for live traffic and construction alerts before you head out.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat amenities do campgrounds near Milan typically offer?
You'll find excellent infrastructure at campgrounds near Milan. William C. Sterling State Park offers 256 modern sites with 20, 30, and some 50-amp electric service, a sanitation dump station with potable water, modern restrooms with hot showers, and a buoyed Lake Erie swim area. KC Campground in Milan has full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a swimming pool, laundry, and a camp store. Most Michigan state parks have dump stations and water fill stations included with your nightly fee. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a sewer hose support, since campsite layouts at Sterling can place hookups farther from the RV pad than you'd expect.
michigan.gov/recsearch/parks/sterlingWhat features and amenities will my Milan RV rental come with?
Most RVs on RVezy in the Milan area come fully equipped for comfortable family camping. Expect real beds (queen-size masters are common), a full kitchen with refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning and heat, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many listings also include a generator for off-grid power, a TV, and increasingly, mobile WiFi hotspots. Class C motorhomes typically sleep 4 to 7, while travel trailers can sleep up to 10. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 6+' and 'Generator' if you're heading to a less-developed spot like Lake Hudson, where shore power may not reach every site.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/camping-and-lodging/state-parksWhat add-ons and options can I expect when booking an RV in Milan?
Hosts in the Milan area offer some genuinely useful add-ons that can make your trip smoother. Common extras include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with cookware and dishes ($25 to $50), portable generators, propane fire pits (great for state parks that ban open fires during dry spells), bike racks, and camp chairs. Many hosts offer delivery and setup for a flat fee or per-mile rate, and some include free pickup/dropoff at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW), which is just 25 miles from Milan. Mileage policies typically range from 100 to 150 free miles per night. Pro tip: bundling delivery plus a linen kit means you can fly into DTW and step into a fully made-up RV at the campground.
metroairport.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for a Milan RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Milan is handled securely through RVezy, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. You'll pay your trip total at booking using a credit card, and the platform also holds a refundable security deposit, which is separate from your booking payment, before your trip starts. As long as you return the RV in the condition you received it, with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the deposit is released back to your card after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short walkaround video of the RV at pickup and dropoff, inside and out, so any questions are resolved quickly and you avoid surprises on your final invoice.
