Campgrounds near Bowling Green, Ohio
Bowling Green sits in the flat farmland of northwest Ohio, roughly 25 miles south of Toledo and within a short drive of the Maumee River corridor. The area is popular with RV travelers using I-75 as a north-south route between the Great Lakes and points south, and campgrounds here work well for both overnight stopovers and multi-night stays.
Camping options range from full-service private parks to a small state-park campground on the river. Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey sits just off I-80/90 and is the most road-trip-friendly choice, while Casual Campfire RV Campground, Twin Acres Campground, and Adventure Bound Pleasant View offer additional private-park options with hookups and family amenities.
For a public-land experience, Mary Jane Thurston State Park sits along the historic Maumee State Scenic River, and its 105 acres offer a variety of day-use and overnight activities. The park is a short drive west of Bowling Green near Grand Rapids, Ohio.
Things to do near Bowling Green
The Maumee River is the main outdoor draw. The Maumee River provides some of the best stream fishing in Ohio, and boaters have access to the river while history buffs can explore the remnants of the old canal. Paddling, hiking, and picnicking are other fun activities available at Mary Jane Thurston State Park, and the park also has an archery range with static and 3-D targets.
Families staying at Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground can walk trails near the marina, and campers can enjoy Saturday night movies at the amphitheater in season. The nearby village of Grand Rapids has shops and restaurants within walking distance of the state park sites.
In Bowling Green itself, visitors can explore Bowling Green State University, the downtown Wood County Historical Center, and area metroparks. Toledo, Sandusky, and Cedar Point are all within easy driving range for day trips.

Northwest Ohio has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winter averages around 25°F while summer highs can reach 85°F. Peak RV season runs from late May through early October, with the busiest weekends around Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.
Spring brings the highest water levels on the Maumee, and riverside sites at Mary Jane Thurston can be affected by flooding. Summer is warm and humid with occasional thunderstorms, and it is the most reliable window for family camping.
Fall offers cooler nights and lighter crowds, and is a strong choice for anglers on the Maumee. Under the proper winter conditions, park guests can enjoy a sled hill at the state park, though most private campgrounds in the area close or limit services from late fall through early spring.

We rented this trailer from David for a work event/music festival and it was absolutely amazing. The air conditioning alone was enough to make the entire process SO worth it in the 90 degree summer heat. We had an amazing time and wish we would have had the time and days to use more of the amenities he offered!

How to book campgrounds near Bowling Green
Private campgrounds around Bowling Green, including Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey, Casual Campfire RV Campground, Twin Acres Campground, and Adventure Bound Pleasant View, take reservations directly through their own websites or through the KOA reservation system. Summer weekends and holiday periods book earliest, so lock in dates several weeks ahead when possible.
Mary Jane Thurston State Park Campground is booked through the Ohio State Parks system on ReserveOhio. Reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727. The campground operates year-round, and weekend stays require two-night minimum reservations.
The state-park campground is small, so those hoping to stay there should try to reserve early, especially for riverside sites.
What to expect on the ground
Private parks in the Bowling Green area generally offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, laundry, Wi-Fi, and family amenities such as pools and playgrounds. The Toledo East / Stony Ridge KOA Journey is set up for easy interstate access and pull-through RV sites, while Casual Campfire, Twin Acres, and Adventure Bound Pleasant View lean more toward seasonal and family-camping crowds.
At the state park, expectations are simpler. The campground offers both non-electric and electric sites, several of which have water hook-up. A number of sites are designated for tent camping. Pets are allowed at all sites. Bathroom and shower facilities require a quarter-mile walk to the nearby marina, where campers also access potable water and dump station services.
Highway noise affects some sites, particularly those positioned away from the river corridor, so river-facing sites are worth requesting when available.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bowling Green, OH
How much does an RV rental in Bowling Green cost?
An RV rental in Bowling Green is one of the most affordable ways to vacation in northwest Ohio. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans and Class B motorhomes run $150 to $225, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $325. To score a cheap RV rental in Bowling Green, look for weekday pickups, book outside the National Tractor Pulling Championships weekend in August, and choose a travel trailer if you already have a tow vehicle. Hosts near the I-75 corridor often offer favorable mileage packages because Bowling Green is a popular launch point for Lake Erie trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bowling%20Green%2C%20OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Bowling Green?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bowling Green. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any RV-specific endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens inside the platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country along with your license. Your host will walk you through the rig at pickup so first-time renters feel confident.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an RV in Bowling Green?
You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Bowling Green through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on your Lake Erie sunset rather than the what-ifs. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the vehicle up to the limits of the plan you select at checkout, and you choose the coverage level that matches your comfort zone. If you're a first-time renter heading to Maumee Bay State Park or driving I-75 for the first time, opting for a higher protection tier removes that last bit of hesitation and lets you enjoy the drive.

Booking with confidence is the whole point: RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy on every reservation, and the policy is set by RVezy rather than the individual host, so terms are consistent across every listing in Bowling Green. The refund you receive depends on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so you're not left without options. If you're booking a summer trip around BGSU move-in weekend or the National Tractor Pulling Championships, lock in your dates early and review the cancellation details on your booking page before confirming.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bowling Green?
Yes, and Bowling Green is a great dog town. Many RVezy hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Bowling Green listings, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Your dog will love the 13-mile Slippery Elm Trail for long walks, the off-leash areas at Bowling Green City Park, and the dog-welcoming campsites at Maumee Bay State Park about 30 miles north. Most pet-friendly hosts ask that you keep pets off the furniture and clean up before drop-off. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee, and bring a portable water bowl because summer afternoons along Lake Erie can get warm and humid.

Use the Delivery filter when searching and check the host's delivery radius and fee. Delivery is especially smart if you're flying into Toledo Express Airport: you can ride-share to the campground and find your motorhome rental in Bowling Green ready to enjoy.

Realistic distances from Bowling Green: Cedar Point in Sandusky is about 60 miles east, Hocking Hills is roughly 165 miles southeast, Cuyahoga Valley National Park is about 130 miles east, Mackinaw City, Michigan is roughly 280 miles north, and Indiana Dunes National Park is about 170 miles west. You've got fantastic options within an hour of downtown. The best campgrounds near Bowling Green start with Maumee Bay State Park (about 30 miles northeast in Oregon, OH), which offers electric sites on Lake Erie with a beach, golf course, and paved bike trails. Mary Jane Thurston State Park sits along the scenic Maumee River about 20 miles west and offers electric sites. Van Buren State Park is about 25 miles south of Bowling Green with peaceful, wooded electric sites. reserveohio.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Bowling Green?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Bowling Green. Summer days typically run in the upper 70s to mid 80s°F with warm Lake Erie waters perfect for swimming, while September brings cooler days in the 60s to mid 70s°F, fewer bugs, and gorgeous fall color along the Maumee River. Spring (April to mid-May) can be wet but rewards you with bird migration spectacles at nearby Magee Marsh. Winters are cold (often in the 20s to mid-30s°F) with snow, so most local campgrounds close November through March. Hit Bowling Green the weekend after Labor Day for warm weather, open campgrounds, and lower prices than peak July. The Black Swamp Arts Festival in early September is a local favorite.
weather.gov/cle/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay?
You'll do great, and Bowling Green is one of the easier places in Ohio to learn. The terrain is famously flat (this is the old Great Black Swamp region), rural roads outside the I-75 corridor are wide and low-traffic, and your RVezy host provides a complete walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, awnings, and tank dumping. First time renting an RV? Start with a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20 to 25 foot travel trailer for easier handling. Practice in a large empty parking lot on a Sunday morning before heading out. Take Route 6 west out of town instead of jumping straight on I-75: it's a relaxed, scenic warm-up that runs through farm country with light traffic.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on the road?
You're never stranded. Every RV rental in Bowling Green booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing needs. If something happens on I-75, the Ohio Turnpike, or a back road near Maumee Bay, one phone call gets a professional dispatched to your location. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for quick questions, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after every trip. Snap a photo of the roadside assistance details and save your host's contact in your phone before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bowling Green RV rental to Michigan or Canada?
Interstate travel is easy and popular. Bowling Green sits about 50 miles south of the Michigan border, making weekend RV road trips from Bowling Green to Detroit, Ann Arbor, the Irish Hills, and even Mackinaw City very doable with no extra paperwork for crossing state lines. Crossing into Canada (Windsor is about 60 miles north via the Ambassador Bridge from Detroit) may be allowed depending on the host's listing, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. A classic loop from Bowling Green is I-75 north to Mackinaw City and back, with a detour to Sleeping Bear Dunes on the way home.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat about fuel costs and MPG on a Bowling Green RV trip?
Ohio typically has some of the more affordable gas prices in the Great Lakes region, which keeps your RV trip from Bowling Green budget-friendly. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C, 14 to 20 MPG for campervans, and 12 to 16 MPG for a truck-and-trailer setup. With regular gas in Wood County typically in the low to mid $3 per gallon range, a 300 mile round trip to Cedar Point and back in a Class C runs roughly $90 to $115 in fuel at current prices. Fill up at Pilot or Flying J along I-75 near Perrysburg before heading out: prices are usually lower than at smaller stations closer to campgrounds.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bowling Green?
For peak summer weekends, book as soon as the window opens. Ohio State Parks like Maumee Bay, Van Buren, and Mary Jane Thurston use the ReserveOhio system and accept reservations up to six months in advance, and Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends often fill up the day the window opens. Private parks like Fire Lake Camper Park and Toledo East/Stony Ridge KOA typically book 2 to 3 months ahead for summer weekends. Midweek and shoulder season trips can often be booked just a few days out. If Maumee Bay is full, set up a notification alert on ReserveOhio: cancellations happen daily and a same-week opening is common.
reserveohio.com/What are driving conditions like around Bowling Green?
Bowling Green has some of the friendliest RV driving conditions in Ohio. The land is flat with no mountain passes, I-75 is wide and well-maintained, and rural routes like SR 6, SR 25, and SR 199 have minimal traffic. Watch for two things: sudden lake-effect weather coming off Lake Erie (especially fog and squalls in spring and late fall), and occasional strong crosswinds across open farmland, so give yourself extra steering room in a tall Class A. Check OHGO for current construction and incidents before driving. Avoid I-75 through Toledo during weekday rush hours (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and consider the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90) as a smoother alternative.
ohgo.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Bowling Green?
You'll find everything you need for a comfortable Bowling Green RV trip. Most campgrounds in Wood County and along Lake Erie offer electric hookups (30 and 50 amp), water spigots, dump stations, hot showers, flush toilets, and Wi-Fi at the camp office. Maumee Bay State Park has electric sites plus a dump station, laundry, camp store, swimming beach, and bike rentals. Fire Lake Camper Park offers water and electric sites. Toledo East/Stony Ridge KOA has full hookups, a pool, and a dog park. Fresh water fill and dump stations are available to registered campers at Ohio State Parks, so top off your fresh tank before you leave to skip extra stops on the way home.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/maumee-bay-state-park-campgroundWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Bowling Green?
More than you'd expect. Most RV rentals in Bowling Green come fully equipped to live comfortably: a real bed (often queen or king), a full kitchen with a refrigerator, propane stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with both air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelted travel seats for passengers. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor awnings, and camp chairs. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often have generators for off-grid power, and many campervan rental Bowling Green options have solar setups. Filter by the exact sleeps count and amenities you need on RVezy, and message the host to confirm specifics like CPAP-friendly inverters or a kid-safe bunk layout.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bowling%20Green%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts on RVezy offer a menu of helpful add-ons that make your Bowling Green trip easier. Common options include linens and towel packages, kitchen kits with cookware and utensils, generator use, bike racks, outdoor grills, and camping chair and table sets. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Bowling Green, Perrysburg, or nearby Wood County, and many hosts offer delivery to Maumee Bay State Park or your campground for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overages around $0.25 to $0.45 per mile depending on the listing. Bundling delivery, setup, linens, and a kitchen kit turns a rental into a turnkey vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bowling%20Green%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay directly through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, with no cash exchanges with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically a few hundred to about $1,500 depending on the RV's value), and it's released back to you after drop-off assuming the rig comes back in the same condition. To make sure you get your deposit back smoothly on your RV rental in Ohio, do a thorough walkaround photo-check at pickup with the host, follow the host's rules on tank dumping and mileage, and return the rig clean. Keep fuel and dump receipts handy: they make checkout fast and friction-free.
