Kickapoo Cavern State Park is a lightly developed outdoor retreat located near Brackettville in the Texas Hill Country, west of San Antonio. Sitting at elevations between 1,580 and 2,002 feet, the park offers five full-hookup campsites and 10 water-only sites, with electrical, water, sewer hookups, 30-amp service, showers, restrooms, picnic tables, grills, a dump station, a playground, and pet-friendly grounds. The park is home to 20 known caves, including the 1,400-foot-long Kickapoo Cavern and Stuart Bat Cave, which hosts thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats. Guided cave tours are offered on Saturdays by reservation. Outdoor enthusiasts will find hiking and mountain biking trails, birdwatching opportunities across roughly 240 documented species, geocaching, and scenic overlooks along the Armadillo Lookout Trail. The surrounding Edwards Plateau landscape provides a rugged, conservation-focused atmosphere ideal for nature lovers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience. Nearby attractions include Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area, Garner State Park, and Lost Maples State Natural Area. Note that the park does not provide trash service, so campers must pack out their waste. RVs are welcome up to 36 feet in length.
