Rent a motorhome or trailer in Madison and access endless family fun and some of the best parks in Wisconsin. Known as the City of Four Lakes, Madison is one of the best spots in the state for water sports, with four large lakes located within 15 miles of downtown. And with 260 parks across the metro area, you won't be short of opportunities to explore the local countryside.
The best time to plan an RV rental in Madison is during the fall. While the weather is changeable this time of year, you'll get the chance to catch one of the Big Ten Conference college football games. Many of Madison's best annual events also occur in the fall, including the Madison Marathon and the Taste of Madison. Make your next trip to the Midwest one to remember with a stay in Wisconsin's capital.
With several well-equipped campgrounds and numerous nearby parks, you won't have any trouble finding somewhere to park your Madison RV rental. If you're searching for a peaceful RV park within 10 miles of downtown, check out William G. Lunney Lake County Farm and Campground. This campground has over 50 sites, most of them with 50-amp electrical hookups and amenities like a dump station, showers, and Wi-Fi on-site. Since the campground is part of the 328-acre Capital Springs Recreation Area, there is plenty to do, like fishing and boating on Lake Waubesa or hiking and biking along the multi-purpose trails.
Alternatively, head 15 miles north of the city to Madison Campground. Formerly the Madison KOA, this RV park offers close to 100 pull-through sites with full hookups and 30- and 50-amp electricity. If you're looking to kill time, cool off in the pool or plan a picnic at the outdoor pavilion. Pets are welcome, and the campground has an on-site dog park. There are also a few helpful amenities, including a camp store and a laundry room.
RVers who'd prefer to park farther from the city should check out Milton KOA Holiday. Situated 30 miles south of the city, the Milton KOA has pull-through sites with full hookups and max-amp electricity along the 10,000-acre Lake Koshkonong. The Milton KOA is one of the best campgrounds in Madison for on-site activities, with everything from laser tag to frisbee golf. As with most KOAs, this campground is very pet-friendly, and there's also a dog park. Helpful amenities include showers, a snack bar, and Wi-Fi.
After you've settled in at your chosen campground, you'll be ready to head into the city and check out Madison's top attractions. While traffic in Madison can be hectic during rush hour, it tends to be better than in other major cities, meaning you shouldn't have too much trouble getting around. There are also several parking lots with RV parking near downtown, including a Walmart within walking distance of Madison's best attractions.
If you're searching for an excursion that's sure to keep your whole crew happy, head to the Henry Vilas Zoo. One of the largest zoos in Wisconsin, Henry Vilas Zoo, is home to over 650 animals from 115 species, including Amur tigers, meerkats, and red pandas. There are also some great museums in Madison, and one of the most unusual is the National Mustard Museum. This unique museum boasts a collection of over 6,000 mustards from all 50 states and over 70 countries. Enjoy a free tasting, and pick up a jar of your favorite flavor for folks back home.
Looking to spend a day or two lazing by a lake? Then swing by Lake Kegonsa State Park. Encompassing over 300 acres of lush prairies, wetlands, and woodlands along Lake Kegonsa, this park is one of the best in the state for water sports, with kayaking, swimming, and fishing opportunities. Anglers can expect to reel in panfish, pike, and smallmouth bass. Away from the lake, you can plan a woodland walk on one of several hiking trails and spot some of the 60 different bird species that visit the park each year.
