2024 Forest River Travel Trailer
The camper was absolutely perfect for our family of five! It was spotless, well-organized, and stocked with all the basic necessities, including toilet paper, soap, dishes, towels, and more. I’m a bit of a neat freak, so I really appreciated how clean and thoughtfully organized everything was. The hosts were wonderful to work with—communication was easy, and they were incredibly accommodating. They handled both the delivery and pickup of the camper, so the only thing our family had to focus on was having a great time. We had an amazing experience and would definitely rent from them again!

If you're searching for a peaceful RV park within 10 miles of downtown, check out William G. Lunney Lake County Farm and Campground. This campground has over 50 sites, most of them with 50-amp electrical hookups and amenities like a dump station, showers, and Wi-Fi on-site. Since the campground is part of the 328-acre Capital Springs Recreation Area, there is plenty to do, like fishing and boating on Lake Waubesa or hiking and biking along the multi-purpose trails.
Alternatively, head 15 miles north of the city to Madison Campground. Formerly the Madison KOA, this RV park offers close to 100 pull-through sites with full hookups and 30- and 50-amp electricity. If you're looking to kill time, cool off in the pool or plan a picnic at the outdoor pavilion. Pets are welcome, and the campground has an on-site dog park. There are also a few helpful amenities, including a camp store and a laundry room.
RVers who'd prefer to park farther from the city should check out Milton KOA Holiday. Situated 30 miles south of the city, the Milton KOA has pull-through sites with full hookups and max-amp electricity along the 10,000-acre Lake Koshkonong. The Milton KOA is one of the best campgrounds in Madison for on-site activities, with everything from laser tag to frisbee golf. Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Madison, WI
What does it cost to rent an RV in Madison, and how can I save money?
Renting an RV in Madison is often more budget-friendly than travelers expect. Typical nightly rates on peer-to-peer platforms run about $110 to $170 for travel trailers and smaller towables, and about $170 to $260 for a motorhome rental in Madison, with peak summer weekends most in demand. If you are looking for a cheap RV rental in Madison, save by booking shoulder seasons in late April, May, or September, choosing weekly or longer trips when hosts offer them, and using filters for smaller units when you want maximum value. Madison is a compact hub near lakes and state parks, so short drives can keep fuel costs reasonable.
rvshare.com/rv-rental/madison/wiWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Madison?
Good news: a regular, unrestricted driver license is what most guests need on RVezy, along with approved driver verification on the platform. RVezy requires approved drivers on every booking, including delivery-only trips, and you must be 25 or older with a driving record that meets approval rules. Use your booking checklist to submit ID photos and complete verification before pickup so you are cleared to drive with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my RV rental in Madison?
Every RV rental in Madison through RVezy includes third-party liability coverage that meets applicable state minimums in the United States, with excess coverage layered behind your own auto policy when one applies. You also select a renter protection plan that limits out-of-pocket responsibility for eligible physical damage to the RV, with plan tiers shown at checkout. All plans include 24/7 roadside assistance and trip support benefits, so read the plan summary before you confirm. That way you leave Madison knowing what is covered and what to do if something happens on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is RVezy cancellation policy for Madison RV rentals?
You can plan confidently because RVezy sets guest cancellation refunds by a clear schedule, not ad hoc host rules. Cancel more than 30 days before the trip start and the host does not receive rental payout, while service fee and its tax are forfeited. Cancel between 30 and 8 days before start and about half of the rental amount is forfeited along with service fee and tax. Cancel 7 days or less before start and the full rental amount is forfeited along with service fee and tax. If you cancel within 24 hours of the host accepting your booking and your payment, and your trip still starts more than 24 hours later, you receive a full refund. Protection plan, delivery fee, preparation fee, and add-ons refund on any guest cancellation processed in the platform. If a host cancels, you receive a full refund including fees and taxes. Major weather or disaster questions are handled under RVezy natural disaster guidance, linked from Help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsAre there pet-friendly RV rental options in Madison?
Absolutely. Finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Madison is easy: use the Pet-Friendly filter, then read each listing's rules for dogs or cats. For outdoor time near town, explore local dog parks and pet-welcome trails such as routes on the Capital City State Trail system, or head to nearby Lake Kegonsa State Park for leashed adventures with extra room to roam. Most hosts simply ask for crates or covers when pets are left inside unattended, which keeps rigs clean and neighbors happy.
cityofmadison.com/parks/dogparks/Can the RV be delivered and set up at my Madison-area campground?
Yes. RV delivery in Madison is available from many hosts, so you can meet the trailer or motorhome right at Dane County campgrounds such as Token Creek or Mendota Park, or another agreed address. They typically walk you through power, water, and tanks so first-timers feel confident on night one. Filter for Delivery, message the host with your site number and arrival window, and confirm what hookups the site offers before you book the campsite.
danecountyparks.com/recreation/campingHow far can I travel in my Madison RV rental and are there mileage limits?
Mileage rules are set per listing, so you will see options for an RV rental with unlimited mileage, daily allowances, or per-mile fees before you pay. That transparency makes it easy to plan an RV road trip from Madison, whether it is a Wisconsin loop or a longer regional tour. Popular drives include Devil's Lake State Park and the Wisconsin Dells area in about an hour, Door County in about three hours, Minneapolis in about four and a half hours, and Chicago in about two and a half hours. Crossing into Minnesota, Iowa, or Illinois is common; Canada may be allowed with host approval and RVezy coverage rules, while Mexico is not covered. Always confirm the listing and protection details for your exact route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhere can I camp or park my RV near Madison?
For the best campgrounds near Madison, start with Dane County parks such as Lake Farm, Token Creek, and Mendota County Park for electric sites close to lakes and trails. Add Blue Mound State Park about 30 to 40 minutes west for ridge-top hiking and spacious sites. Reserve early from May through September: Wisconsin state park camping is reserved through the Wisconsin DNR reservation portal, while Dane County campsites are booked through the county reservation system. Booking ahead locks the site you want and keeps your Madison trip relaxed.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat is the best time of year for a Madison RV trip?
Shoulder seasons are local favorites for an RV trip centered on Madison: late April through early June and late August into October blend comfortable daytime highs often in the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit with lighter crowds than midsummer. July and August bring lake weather and festivals, with average highs closer to the low 80s and busier weekends. Winter trips are possible for prepared renters, with averages near freezing or below and snow-ready driving skills. Pick the season that matches how you want to explore lakes, trails, and campus events.
climatology.nelson.wisc.edu/first-order-station-climate-data/madison-climate/I am a first-timer. Will I get an RV orientation in Madison?
Yes. First time renting an RV? Hosts in Madison routinely provide a hands-on walkthrough covering driving or towing, leveling, slide-outs, power, water, waste, climate control, and safety basics. Many share checklists or short videos so you can reference steps at the campsite. If maneuvering a trailer feels intimidating, choose Delivery so the host sets up and orients you on site. Message early with experience level and questions so your pickup or delivery time includes everything you need.
rvezy.com/how-it-worksWhat happens if I break down or need help on my Madison RV trip?
All RVezy protection plans include 24/7 roadside assistance, which is reassuring when you are far from home. Before travel, save RVezy contact steps from your booking and review what your selected plan covers. If trouble hits near Wisconsin Dells, along I-90, or closer to town, you will have a defined path to request help instead of guessing. Pair that backup with a quick pretrip lights-and-tires check and you keep the focus on enjoying the route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Madison RV rental to other states or Canada?
Many listings welcome regional loops into Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, or the Michigan Upper Peninsula when mileage and host rules allow. RVezy commercial coverage applies across the United States and Canada with posted geographic limits; Mexico is excluded, and some remote or event areas require advance approval or are prohibited. Apostle Islands and Bayfield runs, Chicago weekends, and Lake Superior segments are popular multi-state plans. Message your host with every border or remote-road idea, then confirm coverage notes before you depart.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will I spend on gas for an RV rental in Madison?
Midwest retail gasoline often trends a little below the national average, which helps keep the cost of an RV rental in Wisconsin reasonable. Expect roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon for many motorhomes and often a bit better from smaller campervans driven smoothly. Track live prices on major corridors such as I-90 or I-39 when budgeting, and cluster short hops to lakes or county parks near Madison to stretch each tank further. A little route planning turns reasonable pump prices into more budget for dining and activities.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Madison, and how?
For popular summer weekends, aim for two to three months of lead time at Dane County parks and Wisconsin state parks, and remember state park sites can be reserved up to eleven months ahead through the Wisconsin DNR reservation portal. Dane County campgrounds are booked through the county online reservation system, with typical check-in mid-afternoon and checkout early afternoon. If your dates are flexible, Tuesday or Wednesday arrivals often open more choices last minute. Book as soon as your RV dates firm up for the best shoreline or electric sites.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat is driving an RV like in Madison? Any local road tips?
If you are wondering where to park an RV in Madison, good news: Madison is known for readable city grids and generous arterial widths, so most Class C rigs and tow vehicles handle local driving well. Avoid tight downtown ramps during major events such as UW home games, and always read height signs before parking structures. Rural county roads ice over in winter, so slow down and leave space, then watch for spring thaw potholes. If you prefer to skip urban maneuvering, filter for Delivery and start the trip with the RV already leveled at your campground.
cityofmadison.com/live-work/winter/safety-tips/drivingWhat amenities can I expect at Madison-area campgrounds?
RV camping in Madison is well-supported: expect electric sites, modern restrooms, potable water, and dump stations at busy Dane County campgrounds such as Token Creek and Lake Farm County Park, with showers at many loops. When you rent an RV in Madison and camp at a state park, Blue Mound adds options with ridge views and group-friendly layouts. Winter campers should confirm which loops stay open, whether bathhouses are heated, and whether electric amperage matches your heater load. Firewood is commonly sold on site, which saves hauling cordwood across county lines.
danecountyparks.com/recreation/campingWhat features and add-ons come with RV rental in Madison?
Your RV rental in Madison can include real beds, kitchens, bathrooms, climate control, and often entertainment or connectivity extras, whether you choose a campervan rental in Madison for a couple or a larger motorhome for a family RV trip. Hosts frequently offer add-ons such as camp chairs, grills, generators, or delivery for clearly listed fees. Mileage packages, prep fees, and custom pickup windows appear right in the listing, so compare a few favorites before you request a booking. Use in-app messaging to confirm any special gear, then lock the details before you pay.
rvezy.com/how-it-worksHow does payment and security deposit work for Madison RV rentals?
RVezy collects payment on platform: you can pay in full at booking or, for trips more than 37 days out, split into a deposit now and the balance 37 days before departure unless you pay early. If a host configured a security deposit, the amount shows in the listing and a temporary authorization is placed about three days before the trip start, then released about seven days after return unless a claim extends the hold. Review Payment details on the booking page so you see each charge before it runs, and keep pretrip photos handy for a smooth checkout.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Madison for a winter camping adventure?
Winter RV trips from Madison can be memorable when you plan for freezing temperatures and shorter daylight. Choose rigs with protected plumbing when hard freezes are forecast, prioritize parks with reliable electric service for heat, and confirm campground winter schedules because some county or state loops reduce services in the coldest months. Ice fishing on area lakes and skiing at nearby parks remain favorite cold-weather draws. Pack emergency warmth, check road advisories before each drive, and message your host about winter readiness before you book.
