Anderson Lake State Park, WA, United States
The park sits on the Quimper Peninsula off State Route 19 between Chimacum and Discovery Bay, about 10 minutes south of Port Townsend and roughly 2 to 2.5 hours from Seattle by road and ferry. Most RV travelers from the Seattle area drive south around through Tacoma and Olympia or take the Edmonds-Kingston or Bainbridge ferry, factoring in vehicle length-based ferry fares for larger rigs. The access road into the park is narrow and tree-lined with a small day-use lot, so very long motorhomes and trailers should scout parking before committing. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Late spring through early fall, roughly April through September, offers the best mix of dry weather and open trails for RV day trips. The lake opens to fishing in late April and is often busiest on opening weekend and through May and June. Summer brings warm, dry conditions but also the highest risk of toxic algae advisories, which can close the lake to contact. Shoulder months can be quiet and pleasant, though trails on the surrounding peninsula stay damp and muddy well into spring.

Anderson Lake is one of the Olympic Peninsula's best-known fly-fishing lakes, popular for stocked rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. Fishing is from non-motorized or electric-powered boats, float tubes, and the small fishing dock. The season generally runs late April through October, and a Washington fishing license is required.
A roughly 2-mile forested loop encircles the lake through second-growth fir, maple, and wetland edges. The path is mostly level with some short rolls and is suitable for casual day hikes from the main parking area.
The park's upland trail network offers several miles of singletrack and old roadbed routes through forest and meadow. Trails are shared with hikers and equestrians, with rolling terrain that suits beginner to intermediate riders.
Anderson Lake's marshy shoreline and surrounding meadows attract waterfowl, raptors, songbirds, and amphibians. Early morning visits from the dock or loop trail are best for spotting herons, eagles, and migrating ducks.
The main day-use area near the lake has picnic tables, restrooms, and shaded lawn space. It serves as a quiet stop for RV travelers exploring the Chimacum Valley and Port Townsend area.
The historic seaport of Port Townsend lies about 10 miles north of the park and pairs well with an Anderson Lake stop. Visitors can explore Victorian architecture, Fort Worden State Park, and the waterfront before returning to camp.
Very friendly and accommodating host. The camper was in great shape. Thanks so much for making our trip that much better. Will definitely rent again in the future. Highly recommended 👍.
