Brimley State Park, MI, United States
The park is roughly 12 miles west of Sault Ste. Marie via M-28 and M-221, about a 20 minute drive, making Sault Ste. Marie and its border crossing the nearest major service stop. Marquette sits about 160 miles west, roughly a 3 hour drive on M-28, while the Mackinac Bridge is about 60 miles south via I-75. RV drivers crossing the Mackinac Bridge should note wind advisories and posted lane restrictions for high-profile vehicles, and anyone entering from Ontario on I-75 must clear customs at the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge. Chippewa County International Airport in Kincheloe is the closest airport for fly-and-rent trips, with Sawyer International near Marquette as a larger alternative.
Late June through August is the prime window, when Whitefish Bay warms enough for swimming and Upper Peninsula highways are clear of snow. July offers the warmest water and longest daylight, but also the heaviest campground demand, so reservations are recommended. Early September is a strong shoulder option for RV travelers, with cooler nights, thinner crowds, and the start of fall color. Spring arrives late this far north, so May visitors should expect cold water and occasional frost.

The park's sandy Lake Superior beach is its marquee feature, with a broad swimming area and shallow, comparatively warm water for the Upper Peninsula. Day-use parking sits close to the sand and accommodates larger vehicles.
The park boat launch provides direct access to Whitefish Bay for fishing, paddling, and powerboating. Anglers target perch, walleye, northern pike, and seasonal salmon runs moving toward the St. Marys River.
Point Iroquois Light Station is a short drive west of the park along Lakeshore Drive and offers a climbable tower, small museum, and beach walks on Hiawatha National Forest land. The site has a large paved lot suitable for RVs and tow vehicles. fs.usda.gov/r09/hiawatha/recreation
Monocle Lake sits in the Hiawatha National Forest about 6 miles west of Brimley via Lakeshore Drive and offers a loop trail around the lake with a wildlife viewing platform. Trailhead parking is in the day-use lot and can handle trucks with trailers. fs.usda.gov/r09/hiawatha/recreation/trails/binnobin-trail
A short climb leads to a bluff-top view over Spectacle Lake and the surrounding forest, accessed via a paved single-lane road off Lakeshore Drive. Drivers should yield to downhill traffic, and the overlook lot is small so larger RVs may prefer to park and shuttle. fs.usda.gov/r09/hiawatha/recreation/trails/binnobin-trail
The Soo Locks are about 20 minutes east of the park and allow visitors to watch freighters transit between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. A downtown observation deck, visitor center, and nearby RV-friendly parking make it an easy half-day trip.
Tahquamenon Falls State Park is roughly an hour west and is home to one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. The Upper Falls lot has designated RV spaces and paved trails lead to the main viewing platforms.
We rented the trailer to use at the KOA during our hockey weekend in the Soo when hotel rooms were very limited. Lowell was great to deal with. Easy communication and so helpful! The trailer was exactly what we were looking for with our family of five! Would recommend Lowell to anyone!
