The lower Castaic Lagoon features designated swimming beaches open seasonally from mid-May through mid-September when lifeguards are on duty. Swimming is only permitted in designated areas under lifeguard supervision. The lagoon's calmer water makes it ideal for families.
The park maintains three distinct hiking areas accessible from parking lots with RV-friendly spaces: Grasshopper Canyon north of parking lot 13, trails between parcels 3-7 toward the West Launch Ramp, and trails near the West Launch Ramp beyond lifeguard headquarters. Trails range from novice to experienced levels with options for hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders. castaiclake.com/trails
Extensive picnic areas throughout the park range from small family-sized plots to large group facilities. The campground amphitheater with a stage and firepit is available for rent. Day-use areas provide tables, fire rings, and restrooms with parking for standard vehicles and RVs.
The recreation area encompasses more than 11,200 acres of parkland and open-space habitat attracting various bird species and wildlife. The diverse landscape of water, chaparral, and oak woodland creates opportunities for nature observation and photography throughout the park's 29 miles of shoreline.
