Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area is a sprawling 19,000-acre off-road recreation destination located in the Tejon Pass area of California, just north of Los Angeles along Interstate 5. This expansive park features over 130 miles of scenic trails across varied terrain ranging from 3,000 to nearly 6,000 feet in elevation, making it ideal for motorcycle, ATV, dune buggy, and 4x4 enthusiasts of all skill levels.
The area accommodates camping at eleven semi-developed campgrounds offering over 200 campsites equipped with shade ramadas, picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. Smith Forks Campground provides additional amenities including flush toilets and sinks. A group facility at Honey Valley Group Camp is available for larger gatherings.
Beyond off-roading, visitors can enjoy geocaching throughout the property and explore trails in the Native Grasslands Management Area. The variable seasonal weather and diverse terrain accommodate both beginners on easier trails and experienced riders seeking challenging backcountry routes. Note that drinking water is unavailable in the park; nearby Gorman and Lebec offer additional resources, including water stations at Pyramid Lake.
