Lower Scrub Oaks is one of several semi-developed campgrounds within Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA), a 19,000-acre off-highway vehicle park located near Lebec in California's Tejon Pass, just north of Los Angeles off Interstate 5. Straddling Los Angeles, Ventura, and Kern counties, the area sits within a dramatic ridge basin with elevations ranging from 3,000 to nearly 6,000 feet. The campground offers first-come, first-served sites equipped with shade ramadas, picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. The park features over 130 miles of scenic OHV trails suitable for motorcycles, ATVs, dune buggies, and 4x4 vehicles, with trails ranging from beginner-friendly terrain in the Native Grasslands Management Area to challenging backcountry routes. Additional advanced trails are accessible via the adjacent Los Padres National Forest. Spring and fall bring mild temperatures ideal for riding, while winter occasionally delivers snow and summer days are hot and dry. Note that no drinking water is available on-site, and cellular coverage is limited throughout the park. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Lower Scrub Oaks is an excellent base camp for OHV enthusiasts exploring one of Southern California's premier off-road destinations.
