Late May through early October is the prime window, when shoreline breezes moderate New England heat and the park's meadows, pavilions, and bike path are fully open. July and August bring the warmest water and busiest weekends, so midweek visits help avoid crowded picnic areas and parking loops. September and early October offer cooler air, thinner crowds, and excellent cycling conditions. Winter visits are possible for day use, but facilities are limited and coastal winds can be raw.

The paved East Bay Bike Path passes directly through Colt State Park, linking Providence and Bristol along Narragansett Bay. Riders can start from lots inside the park and follow flat, shoreline miles in either direction. Large paved lots inside the park accommodate vehicles with bike racks.
Colt State Park is widely regarded as one of Rhode Island's finest picnic destinations, with hundreds of tables and grills spread across open fields overlooking the bay. Several reservable pavilions are available through the state parks system for groups. Loop roads and pullouts offer easy access for larger vehicles.
Anglers cast from shoreline rocks, piers, and the Mill Gut area for striped bass, bluefish, tautog, and scup. A Rhode Island recreational saltwater fishing license is required for most species. Roadside parking and fishing access points are located along the park's perimeter drive.
The open-air stone chapel sits on a rise overlooking Narragansett Bay and is a popular spot for photography and quiet reflection. A short, level path leads from a nearby parking area. The setting captures some of the best water views in the park.
A one-way interior road winds past stone walls, meadows, and three miles of Narragansett Bay shoreline with frequent pullouts. The route is well suited to slow sightseeing and is popular at sunset. Pullouts and lots are sized for passenger vehicles and mid-size RVs.
Open play fields, courts, and a playground make the park family-friendly for travelers with kids. The lawns are also popular for kite flying thanks to steady bay breezes. Restrooms operate seasonally near the main picnic areas.
Historic downtown Bristol sits just minutes from the park entrance on Route 114 and offers waterfront restaurants, the Herreshoff Marine Museum, and Blithewold Mansion and Gardens. The town is known nationally for its long-running Fourth of July parade. Most attractions have standard town parking, so larger rigs are best left at the park or a nearby campground.
We had a fabulous time in this great camper! AR was so easy to communicate with, answered our questions and was very flexible with our plans. We will definitely be planning something in the future with this great camper, my grandkids loved it. A great family experience!

Great communication, RV was in good shape.

Kevin was great in delivering and setting up the unit and going over the “how to”. It was clean - spacious enough to fit our family of 5 - and ran into no issues on our weekend rental. Highly recommended.

My family had a great time camping with Maria and Kevin’s camper. They were very responsive when we needed help and friendly during drop off and pickup. Will book with them again if we don’t have our own camper next year!

Colt State Park, RI, United States
Colt State Park sits off Route 114 (Hope Street) in Bristol, about 18 miles southeast of Providence, a 25 to 30 minute drive. Boston is roughly 60 miles north, typically 75 to 90 minutes via I-95 and RI-24, and Newport is about 15 miles south across the Mount Hope Bridge. RV drivers approaching from the south should note the Mount Hope and Sakonnet River bridges have posted height and high-wind restrictions, and Route 114 through Bristol is a low-speed village road with tight turns near the park entrance. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Warwick, about 20 miles west.
