Best time to visit Crooked Lake Provincial Park

Mid-June through late August is the best window, when the campground is fully open, water and showers are on, and the lake is warm enough for swimming and paddling. July typically offers the warmest weather and longest days, but also the heaviest weekend use, so midweek stays are calmer. Shoulder season visits in late May and early September bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and easier walk-in site availability, though some services may be reduced. Winter visits are limited to day use, as full campground services are not offered in the off-season.

Things to do at Crooked Lake Provincial Park

  • Crooked Lake Beach Easy
    RV parking available

Crooked Lake Beach is a sandy day-use swimming beach on the park's lakefront with picnic tables, shade, and designated parking suitable for tow vehicles. The gradual entry makes it family friendly for wading and floating. Change facilities and vault toilets are typically available in season.

  • Boat Launch and Fishing on Crooked Lake Easy
    RV parking available

The park's boat launch gives direct access to Crooked Lake for motorboating, fishing, and paddling. Anglers target walleye, northern pike, and perch in the Qu'Appelle Valley lake system. A trailer parking area near the launch accommodates tow vehicles.

  • Qu'Appelle Valley Lookouts Easy
    RV parking available

Short drives and pullouts along Highway 247 and valley rim roads offer sweeping views across Crooked Lake and the surrounding valley. Pack a picnic and stop at wide shoulders with room for longer vehicles. Sunset views are particularly good from the valley rim.

  • Park Hiking and Nature Trails Easy
    RV parking available

Informal shoreline and wooded trails wind through aspen and oak near the campground and day-use area. The walks are short and mostly flat, making them suitable for casual hikers and families. Wildlife sightings often include white-tailed deer and a variety of songbirds.

  • Canoeing and Kayaking Moderate
    RV parking available

Crooked Lake's long, narrow shape makes it excellent for paddling along the protected shorelines of the Qu'Appelle Valley. Launch small craft from the beach or boat launch and explore coves and marshy inlets. Watch for afternoon winds that can funnel down the valley.

  • Grenfell Heritage Sites Easy
    RV parking available

The nearby town of Grenfell, about 15 minutes from the park, offers prairie heritage stops such as the Grenfell Museum and historic main street. It is a convenient supply run for groceries, fuel, and propane while staying at the park. Parking on main-street side streets accommodates most RVs.
