Late April through June and September into October are the best windows for RV travel, with mild temperatures, wildflowers, and lighter crowds. July and August are hot and dry in the canyon, often topping 90°F, and fire restrictions typically apply along the lower river from June 1 through October 15. Winter stays are possible since the park is open year-round, but expect wind, cold nights, and occasional ice on the access road. Shoulder seasons also align with strong trout and steelhead fishing on the lower Deschutes.

Jesse was always available to assist in anything we needed. We took the RV for a ten day trip to Banff and back and the trip went smoothly. I was most impressed with the turning circle of the Winnebago compared with other RVs we have rented in the past. I would recommend this RV to anybody looking for a comfortable road trip and a smooth experience.

Jesse was super responsive and helpful throughout the whole process and even after drop off. There was an issue with the table (we broke it-oops) and we worked through it with no problems.

Deschutes River State Recreation Area, OR, United States
The park is reached from Interstate 84 at Exit 97, roughly 17 miles east of The Dalles and about 100 miles (under two hours) east of Portland. From Bend, drivers take US-97 north to I-84 for a trip of about 140 miles or three hours. RVers should note that I-84 through the Columbia River Gorge has strong crosswinds that can affect high-profile rigs, and the climb over the Blue Mountains east of the park involves sustained grades. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Portland International (PDX).
