Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through November) offer the most comfortable conditions for RV travel, with mild temperatures and generally lower humidity. Summers in North Texas are hot, with highs often above 95 F, though the Paluxy River provides welcome swimming holes and shaded campsites help. Winters are mild but can bring occasional cold fronts and freezing nights, and heavy rain in any season can raise the Paluxy and temporarily cover the main dinosaur track sites. Weekends and holidays fill quickly, so midweek stays are best for RVers seeking quieter campgrounds.

The park's signature activity is walking out onto the limestone Paluxy riverbed to see real Cretaceous dinosaur tracks. The footprints were left in calcium-rich mud that hardened and preserved the shape of the dinosaurs' feet and claws, slowly revealed by area rivers through millennia of erosion. Main Track Site parking accommodates vehicles and small RVs.
A short, mostly flat walk from the Main Track Site parking area leads to the most visited theropod and sauropod trackways. Best viewed when the river is low and clear; bring water shoes for wading.
The Blue Trail climbs limestone bluffs above the Paluxy to scenic overlooks of the river valley. Rocky and uneven in places, with roughly 200 feet of elevation gain.
More than 20 miles of multi-use trails wind through cedar and oak woodland on the park's backcountry side. Trails range from gentle doubletrack to rocky singletrack suitable for intermediate riders.
Shallow swimming holes along the Paluxy are a popular cool-down on hot Texas afternoons. River access points are short walks from designated parking areas and day-use lots.
Near the park entrance stand iconic life-size fiberglass models of a Tyrannosaurus rex and Brontosaurus. Originally part of Sinclair Oil's Dinoland traveling exhibit from the New York World's Fair, the statues were later acquired for the park and remain a popular photo stop for RV travelers.
The park has dedicated equestrian trails and a trailhead with trailer parking for visitors bringing their own horses. Several loops of varying length cross limestone terrain and creek crossings.
