A 3.7 km loop trail leads to the central plateau of Dry Island, the park's defining feature and an intact prairie grassland that has never been developed. The hike offers badlands views and access to native prairie flora.
The hand launch provides access for paddlers to explore the Red Deer River and badlands from the water. The park section offers relatively calm paddling suitable for intermediate paddlers. The canoe launch operates May through September.
Over 150 bird species have been recorded in the park, including turkey vultures, golden eagles, red-tailed and Swainson's hawks, prairie falcons, mountain bluebirds, belted kingfishers, and multiple warbler species. The river banks and badlands provide excellent viewing opportunities year-round for day-use visitors.
The Red Deer River supports populations of walleye, northern pike, goldeye, mooneye, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and whitefish. Anglers can fish from the shoreline or paddle to remote sections for more solitude.
The park's main day-use area offers breathtaking scenic views of the Red Deer River valley and badlands topography. Picnic sites with firepits are available, and interpretive signage explains the geological and archaeological significance of the landscape. This area is accessible year-round.
The park supports geocaching activities, allowing visitors to explore the badlands and prairie while searching for hidden caches. This activity combines hiking and treasure hunting across the unique terrain.
