Late June through early September brings the warmest, driest weather and the fullest access to nearby trails and rivers. September and early October are excellent shoulder-season choices, with cool days, fall colour in the Musquodoboit Valley, and fewer visitors. Spring visits can be muddy as the river runs high with snowmelt, and winter closes most day-use facilities in the region.

The Musquodoboit Trailway is a rail-to-trail path in nearby Musquodoboit Harbour that connects to wilderness loops with granite ridges and lake views. The main trail surface is crushed stone and suitable for hiking and cycling.
Route 357 winds through the Musquodoboit Valley past farmland, forests, and small communities. It is a popular scenic drive linking the Halifax area to the Eastern Shore.
The Musquodoboit River offers calm flatwater sections suitable for canoes and kayaks during summer low-water conditions. Paddlers should scout put-ins and check current levels before launching.
Lawrencetown Beach is a popular surf and swim beach on the Eastern Shore, about 30 km south of Elderbank. The supervised beach has a large day-use parking area that accommodates RVs.
Martinique Beach is one of the longest sandy beaches in Nova Scotia and is located on the Eastern Shore near Musquodoboit Harbour. The park offers boardwalks, picnic areas, and birdwatching.
The mixed farmland, river corridor, and Acadian forest around Elderbank attract songbirds, waterfowl, and raptors. Quiet mornings along pull-offs and park edges are productive for casual birders.
Camper van was absolutely amazing. Comfortable bed, tons of light, fridge, water and everything you could possibly need! Gas wasn’t much more than an suv would be. Dean is a fantastic guy and made we knew everything about the van before heading out and was great dealing with little hiccups along the way. Would recommend this way of travel (and renting through Dean) to anyone!

Caroline and her husband were wonderful hosts! They took the time to get us up to speed on their van, and point out what we needed to know. The van came well equipped with stove, camping chairs and even an awning! We great enjoyed our trip in their van!

Elderbank Provincial Park, NS, Canada
From Halifax, the park is roughly a 50 km drive northeast via Highway 107 and Route 357 through the Musquodoboit Valley, about 45 to 60 minutes by RV. From Truro, it is about 90 km south via Route 224 and Route 357, around 75 minutes. Route 357 is a paved two-lane rural road with some rolling grades and narrow shoulders, so larger motorhomes and towables should drive cautiously and watch for wildlife. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Halifax Stanfield International Airport, about 40 km west of the park.
