Late June through early September is the most popular window, with warm, dry weather on the east coast of Vancouver Island and low river levels that open up the swimming pool below the lower falls. July and August are peak season, so reservations are strongly recommended for vehicle-accessible campsites. May, June, and September are good shoulder-season options for RV travellers who prefer quieter campgrounds and cooler hiking weather. Autumn visits also offer a chance to see spawning salmon in the river.

The Upper Falls viewpoint is a short walk from the day-use parking lot and delivers a dramatic view of the Englishman River plunging into a narrow rock canyon. A footbridge above the falls offers a bird's-eye view of the water below. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/
This trail connects the campground and day-use area with the lower falls and a second bridge crossing the canyon. The loop travels through old-growth and second-growth Douglas fir, cedar, hemlock, arbutus, and maple forest. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/
A deep, crystal-clear pool at the base of the lower falls is an ideal swimming hole when summer river levels are low. There are no lifeguards on duty, so swimmers should use caution. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/
In the fall, the pool below the lower falls is a great place to watch spawning salmon in the Englishman River. Quiet observation from the bridges and viewing stations is the best approach. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/
A 2.3-kilometre multi-use cycling trail network runs within the park, developed through a partnership with the Arrowsmith Cycling Club. E-bikes are permitted on signed or designated trails that meet BC Parks criteria. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/
The large day-use area sits past the campground next to a parking lot that fits roughly 105 vehicles. Facilities include a picnic shelter, picnic tables, flush toilets, fresh water, and a viewing platform overlooking the river. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/englishman_rv/index.html
MacMillan Provincial Park's Cathedral Grove, home to towering old-growth Douglas fir, is a short drive west on Highway 4. It is a classic add-on for RV travellers basing themselves at Englishman River Falls. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/
The sandy shores of Parksville and Qualicum Beach are roughly a 15 to 20 minute drive north of the park. They offer long tidal flats, seaside parks, and additional day-use options for families. bcparks.ca/englishman-river-falls-park/

We loved our trip up Vancouver Island, and across to Quadra and Cortes islands too. Having an RV , along with our bikes (we brought our hitch bike rack), meant we had a lot of flexibility. Our little dogs had a blast too. At the pickup, Jessica explained how everything worked, and urged us to reach out with any questions during our trip. When we did have a question, she was very quick to respond. Returning the RV was also very easy, and Jessica was flexible with the time. She appreciated that we returned the RV clean. Would absolutely recommend Jessica and her RV to anyone considering a trip on Vancouver Island.

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is about 13 km southwest of Parksville and roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive north of Nanaimo via Highway 19 and Highway 4, with access on Errington Road. From Victoria, it is roughly a 2.5 hour drive north on the Island Highway. RV travellers should watch for narrow, winding rural roads on the final approach, and note that ferry reservations from mainland BC (Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay) are strongly recommended for larger RVs due to vehicle height and length limits on BC Ferries. Nanaimo Airport (YCD) is the closest airport for fly-and-rent trips, with Victoria International (YYJ) and Vancouver International (YVR) as larger alternatives.
