Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather, with long days ideal for swimming, boating, and hiking. July and August are peak season, so campsite reservations fill quickly and the shoreline is busiest. May, early June, and September are excellent shoulder-season windows for cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier RV site availability. Winter visits are possible, with Whitetail Campground open year-round, but expect snow, icy roads, and limited services.

Lake Pend Oreille is Idaho's largest lake and forms the park's dramatic southern shoreline, with swimming beaches, picnic areas, and boat launches. RV visitors can access day-use parking at Beaver Bay and Eagle Boat Launch. Popular activities include swimming, kayaking, and fishing for kokanee and rainbow trout.
The Museum at the Brig preserves the history of the Farragut Naval Training Station, which operated here during World War II. Housed in a former base building, exhibits cover naval training, the Scout Jamborees held at the park, and local Idaho history. Parking accommodates larger vehicles at the visitor center area.
Farragut offers more than 45 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding through forest, meadows, and lake overlooks. Routes range from short interpretive loops to longer connector trails. Trailhead parking near Whitetail and Sunrise Day-Use areas accommodates trucks and smaller motorhomes.
The park's 18-hole disc golf course winds through forested terrain near the Willow Day-Use Area. Large day-use lots accommodate RV parking for visitors stopping in for a round. The course is free to play with park admission.
Scenic overlooks near the park and the adjacent village of Bayview deliver sweeping views of Lake Pend Oreille framed by the Coeur d'Alene Mountains. The drive from the park entrance to Bayview is short, paved, and RV-accessible. Bayview also offers small marinas, restaurants, and boat rentals.
Farragut hosts a dedicated model airplane flying field used for radio-controlled aircraft. It is one of the few designated RC flying sites within an Idaho state park and a popular stop for hobbyists. Paved access supports easy parking for tow vehicles and motorhomes.
The park maintains a public shooting range and archery area with rifle, pistol, and shotgun bays. Facilities are open seasonally and are separated from campgrounds and trails. Parking at the range is sized for trucks and tow vehicles.
Farragut State Park sits at the breakout of Ice Age Glacial Lake Missoula floods, where failure of the ice dam sent a torrent of water and ice bursting from the south end of Lake Pend Oreille. Interpretive signage and self-guided auto touring of the park's paved roads pass kettles, potholes, and other flood-carved features. The main park roads easily accommodate RVs. nps.gov/places/farragut-state-park.htm

Farragut State Park, ID, United States
The park is about 30 miles north of Coeur d'Alene and roughly 30 miles south of Sandpoint via U.S. Highway 95 and State Highway 54, an easy and RV-friendly approach without steep mountain passes or tunnels. From Spokane, Washington, it is about a 75 to 90 minute drive east on I-90 and north on US-95. Drivers should still watch for winter snow, icy shoulders, and logging trucks on Highway 54. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Spokane International Airport (GEG), about 60 miles west.
