Late spring through early fall, roughly May through September, brings the most reliable flying weather and comfortable daytime temperatures for spectators and pilots. Mornings are typically calm with the south side working best in afternoon thermals. July and August can be hot and hazy in the valley, so shoulder months of May, June, and September offer cooler RV-friendly conditions with fewer crowds. Winter flying happens on mild days, but snow and ice can make the access road and training hill slick.
Cold and often snowy; flying limited to mild days.
Winter conditions continue; inversion haze common in the valley.
Variable spring weather; winds can be gusty.
Pleasant but unsettled; afternoon thermals pick up.
Prime flying season begins; mild and comfortable.
Warm, dry, and reliable flying conditions.
Hot and sunny; hydrate and seek shade at the launch.
Monsoon thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.
Excellent shoulder-season weather with lighter crowds.
Cool fall days; flyable conditions continue.
First snows typical; fewer flying days.
Cold, icy conditions; access road may be slick.
The Point of the Mountain is one of the most consistent free-flight training sites in the world, with a gentle training hill and higher ridge launches. Several local schools offer tandem flights and lessons for first-time visitors, while licensed pilots can launch directly from the park.
Spectators can watch colorful paragliders and hang gliders soar the ridge from the grassy viewing areas. Afternoons typically bring the best activity on the south-side launch, with dozens of wings aloft on busy summer days.
The same reliable winds that attract paragliders make the ridge a popular spot for RC glider and model aircraft enthusiasts. Designated areas keep model flyers separated from full-scale launch zones.
The park offers wide views across Utah Valley and toward the Wasatch Range, with constant aerial action for sports and landscape photographers. Sunrise and sunset sessions over the Oquirrh Mountains are especially scenic.
Nearby trail segments follow the ancient shoreline of Lake Bonneville along the foothills of the Traverse Mountains. The path is good for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking with sweeping valley views.
The park sits roughly midway between Salt Lake City and Provo on I-15, making it an easy base for day trips. Visitors can explore Temple Square, the Natural History Museum of Utah, or the Provo Canyon scenic drive within about 30 minutes.
Just minutes from the park in Lehi, Thanksgiving Point offers museums, gardens, and family-friendly activities. The complex includes the Museum of Ancient Life, Butterfly Biosphere, and extensive botanical gardens.
Rodrigo and Family were amazing! We came in to visit Family all the way from Australia and we’re looking for a reliable and reasonable Rv to rent to go to Yellowstone. The RV was super clean, easy to drive and well stocked with everything you need. We would highly recommend using them for any type of RV rental. Their communication skills were fantastic all the way through.

Flight Park State Recreation Area, UT, United States
The park is just off I-15 at the Utah County line, about a 25 to 30 minute drive south from downtown Salt Lake City and roughly 20 minutes north of Provo. Salt Lake City International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, about 30 miles north via I-15. RVers should note that I-15 through the Point of the Mountain is a steep, windy grade where high-profile vehicles can be buffeted by strong crosswinds, and construction in the area is common. There are no tunnels or low clearances on the approach, but drivers should plan fuel stops in Lehi or Draper since the park itself has no services.
