Late June through early September brings the driest, warmest weather, with daytime highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s F and minimal rainfall, making it the best window for beach days and lighthouse tours. July and August are peak season, so RV sites book out months ahead. May, early June, and September are excellent shoulder months with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier reservation availability. Winter visits are scenic but wet and windy, with frequent storms rolling in off the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The Point Wilson Lighthouse stands at the northern tip of the park where Admiralty Inlet meets the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Visitors can walk the beach trail to the active 1914 light tower and watch ferries, freighters, and marine wildlife pass by. RV parking is available at the nearby Beach Campground day-use lot.
Artillery Hill is a network of forested trails and concrete coastal defense batteries built between 1898 and 1920. Hikers can explore Battery Kinzie, Battery Randol, and other emplacements with panoramic views of Puget Sound. Bring a flashlight to peek inside the magazines.
The Fort Worden Beach Walk follows roughly two miles of driftwood-strewn shoreline along Admiralty Inlet. The flat, sandy route is ideal for beachcombing, tide pooling at low tide, and watching for orcas, harbor seals, and bald eagles. Trailhead parking suits most RVs at the Beach Campground lot.
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center operates two exhibit buildings on the historic Fort Worden pier. Hands-on touch tanks, a full orca skeleton, and natural history displays make it a strong family stop. Day-use parking is steps away.
The Coast Artillery Museum is housed in a former barracks on the lower campus and interprets the role of Forts Worden, Casey, and Flagler in the Triangle of Fire defense system. Exhibits include uniforms, weapons, and detailed dioramas of the harbor defense network. Parking is available on the parade ground perimeter.
The Chinese Gardens Lagoon Trail is a short, level loop on the south side of the park that circles a freshwater lagoon and historic gardener cottage site. Birders often spot herons, kingfishers, and migrating waterfowl. The trailhead has a small lot suitable for medium-size rigs.
Memory's Vault is an outdoor sculpture by poet Sam Hamill set on a forested bluff overlooking Admiralty Inlet. The connecting Bluff Trail links the upper campus, Artillery Hill, and the beach. Expect roots, gravel, and modest elevation changes.

Fort Worden State Park, WA, United States
Fort Worden sits on the north tip of Port Townsend, about a 2 hour drive from Seattle via the Edmonds-Kingston ferry and US-104, or roughly 3 hours via Tacoma and the Hood Canal Bridge on SR-104 and SR-20. From the south, RVers should plan around the Hood Canal Floating Bridge weight and width clearances and watch for occasional bridge closures during high winds. The final approach through downtown Port Townsend includes narrow streets and tight turns, so larger rigs should follow signed RV routes via Sims Way and Cherry Street. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent RV trips.
