Late spring through early fall, roughly May through September, offers the most reliable weather for boating, sailing, and shoreline exploration, with long daylight hours and warm, dry conditions typical of the Salt Lake Valley. Midsummer can be hot and brings a strong lake odor when winds shift, so mornings and evenings are often more comfortable. Shoulder seasons in April and October bring cooler temperatures, fewer visitors, and excellent light for photography of the lake and surrounding Oquirrh and Wasatch ranges. Winter visits are possible for day use, though marina services and boating activity are limited.

The Great Salt Lake Marina is the primary boating and sailing hub on the lake and the centerpiece of the state park. It offers a boat launch, slips, and shoreline access for visitors arriving by RV.
The park's visitor center introduces visitors to the lake's geology, salinity, and wildlife. Interpretive displays explain how the Great Salt Lake is a remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville.
Black Rock is a historic landmark on the Hastings Cutoff of the California Trail just southwest of the park. Located 1.4 miles southwest of the Great Salt Lake State Park Visitor Center, amenities include a designated parking area and gravel walking path that is level but not fully ADA. nps.gov/places/black-rock-site.htm
The lake's extreme salinity allows visitors to float effortlessly on the surface, a signature experience of the park. Shoreline access near the marina provides a place to wade in and rinse off afterward.
The Great Salt Lake is a critical stopover for millions of migratory birds, including pelicans, avocets, and phalaropes that feed on brine shrimp and brine flies. Spring and fall migration periods are especially productive for viewing.
The marina supports sailboats and paddle craft on the open waters of the lake. Steady afternoon winds make the south end of the lake a popular sailing venue in summer.
The park's west-facing shoreline delivers unobstructed sunset views across the lake toward Antelope Island and the Stansbury Mountains. The salty flats and reflective water create dramatic color in the evening light.

We had an amazing experience renting this trailer from Jeffrey. He was quick to respond. Had everything set up and ready to go we basically just had to pick it up and drop it off. Would definitely rent again.

Great Salt Lake State Park, UT, United States
The park sits directly off Interstate 80 at Exit 104, approximately 16 miles (about 20 minutes) west of downtown Salt Lake City and roughly 25 miles northeast of Tooele. Salt Lake City International Airport is about 14 miles away, making it a convenient fly-and-rent starting point for RV travelers. Access is via a flat highway corridor with no tunnels, steep grades, or length restrictions on the approach, so most RV classes reach the park without difficulty. Drivers should watch for strong crosswinds on the causeway and open lakebed sections of I-80, which can affect high-profile vehicles.
