The most comfortable months for RV camping are November through March, when daytime highs are mild, humidity is low, and mosquitoes are minimal. Winter also brings clearer skies and easier hiking, though campsites fill quickly with snowbirds, so reservations are essential. Spring shoulder months like April and early May are pleasant but warming fast. Summer is hot, humid, and marked by daily thunderstorms, with peak hurricane activity from August through October.

The Rapids Trail is a short loop leading to one of the few sets of Class II rapids in peninsular Florida. The trail crosses a suspension bridge over the Hillsborough River and winds through shaded hardwood hammock.
Rent a canoe or kayak at the park concession and paddle the cypress-lined Hillsborough River. The calm upstream stretches are beginner-friendly and great for wildlife viewing, including alligators, turtles, and wading birds.
Fort Foster is a reconstructed Second Seminole War fort located within the park. Guided tours departing from the main park area explain the fort's role in 1830s Florida frontier history.
The park operates a large swimming pool with a zero-depth entry area, a welcome feature during hot Florida summers. It provides a safer swim option than the river, where alligators are common.
The Wetlands Trail is a boardwalk and dirt path that crosses floodplain swamp and features interpretive signs about the river ecosystem. It is flat, short, and suitable for most fitness levels.
Anglers can fish for bass, bream, and catfish from shore along designated riverbanks within the park. Early morning and dusk are prime times for spotting deer, otters, and many bird species.
The park is a practical RV basecamp for exploring Tampa-area attractions such as Busch Gardens, ZooTampa, and the Riverwalk. Most destinations are within a 30 to 45 minute drive via I-75 or U.S. 301.

Everything worked perfectly! Moises is a great host, he responded to all my questions and calls and even provided his personal camping app, which is a great find if you are into off grid cool safe camping spots to discover. It's not fancy on the outside, but the price is good and all the features are functional.

Where do I start? After meeting Matt & listening to his explanations, I knew we had made the right decision. He throughly explained the features of the RV, and even hooked the rig up to my truck! Inside, everything was as advertised; linens, dishes, seasonings, you name it. I was even treated with some special Kcups. During our trip, Matt was available & we were able to communicate. On the return, Nate was there to bail me out. I cannot recommend the Portzen trailer experience enough, and trust that you too, will make truly incredible memories.
