Late May through early October is the prime window, with warm days, full trail access, and all water rentals operating. July and August bring peak crowds and the best paddling conditions on the channels. Shoulder months of May, September, and October offer cooler temperatures, quieter trails, and strong fall foliage along the St. Lawrence, ideal for day trips from nearby RV parks. Winter access is limited to groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails when snow cover allows.
Open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing when snow cover is adequate
Winter trails only; vehicle access limited to main parking
Shoulder season; some trails closed for thaw and flooding
Spring flooding can close low-lying trails and the inter-island ferry
Paddling and cycling season opens as water levels drop
Mosquitoes common in the marshes; bring repellent
Peak season; reserve prêt-à-camper and rentals early
Warm paddling conditions on the sheltered channels
Quieter trails and early fall colour
Peak foliage along the St. Lawrence; bike rentals wind down
Most services closed; trails open for walking only
Winter activities begin once snow and ice are sufficient
The calm chenaux between the islands are the park's signature paddling route for canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Rentals are available at the main service area on Ile Sainte-Marguerite, with sheltered water suitable for beginners and families.
A small self-propelled cable ferry (le passeur) links Ile Sainte-Marguerite to Ile a Pinard for cyclists and hikers. The short crossing over the Grande-Riviere channel is a highlight of any visit and connects the main trail networks of the archipelago.
More than 20 km of flat multi-use paths link the islands via bridges, causeways, and the cable ferry. The route passes meadows, farmland, and riverbanks with frequent views of Montreal's skyline.
This short loop on Ile Sainte-Marguerite winds through floodplain forest and open fields with interpretive panels on local ecology. It is a good choice for spotting white-tailed deer, which are unusually abundant in the park.
The park's wetlands are a protected stop on the Atlantic flyway and host great blue herons, ospreys, waterfowl, and migrating songbirds. Observation points along the channels and dikes are accessible on foot or by kayak.
Sepaq operates furnished ready-to-camp tents on Ile Sainte-Marguerite for visitors who want an overnight experience without bringing gear. RV renters can park at the day-use lot and walk in to reach the sites.
In winter the park grooms several kilometres of cross-country ski trails and marks snowshoe routes across the fields and along the channels. Equipment rentals are available at the Discovery Centre when conditions allow.

Iles-de-Boucherville National Park, QC, Canada
The park entrance is about 20 km east of downtown Montreal and roughly a 25 to 30 minute drive via Autoroute 20 and Route 132 through Boucherville. From Quebec City it is about 240 km west, around a 2.5 hour drive on Autoroute 20. RV drivers should note that the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel under the St. Lawrence has a height clearance near 4.1 m and prohibits propane and other dangerous goods, so larger rigs and any RV carrying propane must detour via the Jacques-Cartier or Champlain bridges. Montreal-Trudeau International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers.
