Best time to visit Juniper Beach Provincial Park

Late spring through early fall is the prime window, with May and June offering warm days, green grasslands, and smaller crowds before the peak summer rush. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, ideal for river swimming and long evenings, though the extremely hot, dry climate can result in overexposure to the sun. September is an excellent shoulder-season option with cooler nights, fewer mosquitoes, and reliably open roads for RV travel. The park gate is closed January 1 or when inaccessible by ice and snow, and reopens when roads are clear, so winter visits are not recommended.

Things to do at Juniper Beach Provincial Park

  • Thompson River Swimming Hole Easy
    RV parking available

A sheltered natural swimming area on the beach in front of the campground. During lower water levels on the river, there is a small swimming hole on the beach that is naturally sectioned off from the main river and provides a more protected swimming opportunity. Use caution as the waters of the Thompson River are dangerously swift especially during high water, and there are no lifeguards on duty. bcparks.ca/juniper-beach-park/

  • Canoeing and Kayaking on the Thompson River Moderate
    RV parking available

Paddle from a launch point right inside the park. Canoeing and kayaking opportunities are available in the area, both vessels can be easily launched from the park, and canoeists should check the grade of the river before attempting navigation. bcparks.ca/juniper-beach-park/

  • Fishing the Thompson River Easy

  • Grassland and Sagebrush Walks Easy
    RV parking available

Explore one of BC's rare low-elevation desert landscapes on foot. Owners were very nice and accommodating. Everything worked without a hitch other than some small things that were negligible. Would definitely rent again!!!

This was an enjoyable RV to drive and to stay in. It is advertised as a 2014 but is a 1998. The host left extra towels in the RV which wasn't part of the reservation and I really appreciated that. There was coffee, tea and sugar in the RV as well which was a nice touch. It was very clean.
