Koreshan State Park, FL, United States
The park sits just off U.S. 41 at Corkscrew Road in Estero, immediately accessible from Interstate 75 at Exit 123, making approach straightforward for large rigs on flat, four-lane roads. Fort Myers is about 20 miles north (roughly 30 minutes), Naples is about 20 miles south, and Tampa is around 140 miles (about 2.5 hours) to the north. There are no mountain passes, tunnels, or steep grades of concern, but low-hanging live oak branches along some local streets and tight turns at the campground entrance warrant caution. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, about 15 miles north of the park.
The cooler, drier season from December through April offers the most comfortable weather for RV travel, with lower humidity, fewer mosquitoes, and little rainfall. This peak season also brings higher demand, so campground reservations should be made well in advance. November and early May are pleasant shoulder months with thinner crowds. Summer visits from June through September are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and peak mosquito activity, and tropical weather can affect access.

A self-guided or ranger-led walking tour of the preserved Koreshan Unity settlement is the park's signature experience. Visitors can explore restored buildings including the Planetary Court, Founder's House, and Art Hall, with interpretive signage explaining the community's unusual beliefs and daily life.
The Estero River offers a calm, scenic paddle through mangroves and subtropical vegetation directly from the park. Canoe and kayak launches are available on site, and the river connects downstream toward Estero Bay for longer trips.
Several short nature trails wind through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and riverine habitat within the park. Trails are flat and family friendly, providing opportunities to spot gopher tortoises, wading birds, and other Southwest Florida wildlife.
Anglers can fish from the riverbank or by boat for freshwater and brackish species where the Estero River flows through the park. A valid Florida fishing license is required for those of licensing age.
Picnic areas near the settlement and along the river provide shaded tables and grills for day-use visitors. The grounds also host the park's historic bamboo gardens and tropical plantings originally established by the Koreshans.
The mix of pine flatwoods, riverine forest, and open clearings supports a wide range of Southwest Florida wildlife. Birders commonly spot herons, egrets, woodpeckers, ospreys, and migratory songbirds, with alligators occasionally visible along the river.
The park is a convenient RV base for day trips to nearby Gulf Coast beaches and barrier islands. Fort Myers Beach, Lovers Key State Park, and Bonita Beach are all within a short drive for swimming, shelling, and sunsets.
This was my 1st time renting an RV. Cathy and Jose were fantastic to work with. From explaining the overall process to an “orientation meeting”, they were so helpful. Weather and traffic delayed my return by a couple of hours. Communication remained open and all was fine. Excellent vehicle and even better support where needed. We’ll definitely keep Cathy and Jose in mind for our next adventure 😉

My experience with Jose and his wife was amazing. They were very attentive and proactive with my needs. The RV was outstanding and we fell in love with not only the RV but the overall experience.
