Late October through April is the most comfortable window, with low humidity, mild days, fewer mosquitoes, and the Cow Camp living-history program active on weekends. Winter and early spring also offer the best wildlife viewing and prime largemouth bass fishing. Summer brings heat, high humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and biting insects, though shoulder months like October and May are quieter and still warm enough for paddling.

The 1876 Cow Camp is a living-history site where costumed interpreters portray a Florida cow hunter tending scrub cattle in a recreated 19th-century camp. It typically operates on weekends during the cooler season and is a short walk from the main parking area.
A short walk from the day-use parking lot leads to an elevated observation tower with panoramic views over Lake Kissimmee and surrounding prairie. It is one of the easiest ways for RV visitors to scout for bald eagles, sandhill cranes, and wading birds.
The North Loop is a roughly 6-mile backcountry trail winding through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and prairie habitat. It offers excellent chances to see deer, turkey, and other wildlife for hikers prepared for a longer outing.
Buster Island Loop is a backcountry hiking trail of about 6.5 miles circling an island of hardwood hammock between Lake Kissimmee and Tiger Lake. A primitive camp along the trail serves thru-hikers, while day visitors can sample the first few miles.
Lake Kissimmee is one of Florida's premier largemouth bass fisheries and is accessed from the park via a paved boat ramp near the campground. Anglers also catch bluegill, crappie, and catfish, and pontoon or jon boats are commonly used.
Kayakers and canoeists can launch within the park to explore Lake Kissimmee, Tiger Lake, and connecting marsh channels. Alligators, wading birds, and osprey are commonly seen along the shorelines.
The park is a well-known birding stop with bald eagles, sandhill cranes, red-cockaded woodpeckers, and numerous wading birds. Quiet drives on the park road and walks around the picnic area produce reliable sightings.
Lake Kissimmee State Park offers a dedicated equestrian trail system winding through open pine flatwoods and prairie. Riders must bring their own horses and can access trailhead parking suitable for trucks and trailers.
