Best time to visit Long Hunter State Park

Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and good trail conditions. April and May bring wildflowers across the cedar glades, while October delivers color in the hardwood forest and cooler paddling weather on Percy Priest Lake. Summer is hot and humid but ideal for swimming and boating, though popular areas fill quickly on weekends. Winter visits are quieter, with bare-tree lake views and open trails, but occasional ice storms can briefly affect park roads.

How to get to Long Hunter State Park

The park sits about 20 miles east of downtown Nashville via Interstate 40 and Mount Juliet Road, roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive depending on traffic. From Murfreesboro it is about 25 miles north, and from Lebanon about 15 miles southwest. Nashville International Airport (BNA) is the closest major airport, making this a convenient fly-and-rent destination. RV drivers should note that Nashville-area interstates are busy at peak hours, and the narrow park roads inside Long Hunter favor smaller rigs and tow vehicles over very large motorhomes.
