Late June through early September offers the warmest ocean temperatures, reliable sunshine, and full seasonal services at the beach. July and August are peak months for swimming and surfing, though summer fog can roll in off the Atlantic. Shoulder months like June and September bring thinner crowds, cooler but comfortable days, and excellent birdwatching as geese and shorebirds stage in the sanctuary. Martinique Beach stretches about five kilometres along the Atlantic and is often described as Nova Scotia's longest sandy beach. Boardwalks lead from the main parking area over the dunes to firm, walkable sand ideal for long shoreline strolls.
The open Atlantic at Martinique offers rolling surf and clean water popular with swimmers and bodysurfers during summer. Water stays cool even in August, and there are no lifeguards, so visitors should check conditions and swim with care.
Martinique is one of the best-known surf breaks on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore, with consistent beach-break waves. Onshore winds also make it a reliable spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding when conditions line up.
The park borders a federally recognized game sanctuary that hosts large numbers of Canada geese, brant, and migrating shorebirds. The wetlands and dunes behind the beach make for excellent seasonal birdwatching from the trails and boardwalks.
The long sand flats exposed at low tide reveal shells, sea glass, and small marine life. It is an easy, low-impact activity suitable for families exploring with kids.
Several parking loops along East Petpeswick Road offer picnic tables, change houses, and dune boardwalk access. RV travellers can park, set up a shore lunch, and spend the afternoon without needing a campsite on site.
Steady onshore breezes and a wide, open beach make Martinique a favourite for kite flyers. The long flat sand gives plenty of room to launch away from other visitors.
Camper van was absolutely amazing. Comfortable bed, tons of light, fridge, water and everything you could possibly need! Gas wasn’t much more than an suv would be. Dean is a fantastic guy and made we knew everything about the van before heading out and was great dealing with little hiccups along the way. Would recommend this way of travel (and renting through Dean) to anyone!

Caroline and her husband were wonderful hosts! They took the time to get us up to speed on their van, and point out what we needed to know. The van came well equipped with stove, camping chairs and even an awning! We great enjoyed our trip in their van!

Martinique Beach Provincial Park, NS, Canada
The park is reached via Highway 107 and Route 7 from Halifax, roughly a 45 minute to one hour drive covering about 55 kilometres to the turnoff at Musquodoboit Harbour, then south on East Petpeswick Road to the beach. Halifax Stanfield International Airport sits about 40 kilometres northwest, making it a practical fly-and-rent starting point. The route is paved throughout with no tunnels or steep mountain passes, but East Petpeswick Road narrows as it approaches the coast, so larger motorhomes and trailers should take secondary turns slowly. Cell service can fade along the peninsula, so RV renters should download offline maps before leaving Halifax.
