Late May through early October is the prime window, when the campground is open and trails are clear of ice and mud. Summer brings warm swimming weather and full access to the brook and picnic areas, though July and August weekends can fill quickly. September and early October offer cooler temperatures, lighter crowds, and New England fall foliage, making shoulder season especially appealing for RV travelers.

The Wolf Den Trail is a wooded loop hike leading to the rock crevice where Israel Putnam is said to have killed the last wolf in Connecticut in the 1700s. The route also passes Indian Chair and Table Rock, two notable stone formations. Trailhead parking is available on the park road.
A designated swimming area along the brook offers a shallow, family-friendly spot to cool off in summer. Lifeguards may be on duty seasonally, and picnic tables are nearby. Day-use parking accommodates passenger vehicles and smaller RVs.
The main picnic area features tables, grills, and open lawn space beside the brook. It is a popular stop for day trippers touring Connecticut's Quiet Corner and works well as a midday break for RV travelers on Route 44.
Mashamoquet Brook is stocked with trout and offers stream fishing for anglers with a valid Connecticut fishing license. Access points are reachable from the main park roads and several trail crossings.
Table Rock and Indian Chair are distinctive glacial rock formations accessible via the park's interconnected trail system. Both make good short-hike destinations from the campground or picnic area parking lots.
The rustic campground serves as a base for exploring the park and the surrounding Quiet Corner. Sites are wooded and without hookups, best suited to tents, van campers, and smaller trailers.
Located within the park, this small historic site preserves a 19th-century grist mill and blacksmith shop. It is open on a limited seasonal schedule and offers a short, flat walk from nearby parking.
We had a wonderful time even though the weather didn't cooperate Matt was awesome, very communitative, and I would recommend him to anyone

We rented a well-used unit from Matt to travel out to WI and back over Thanksgiving. Had a few issues with it, but Matt was very responsive and responsible. Issues were fixable and overall we had an excellent experience!

Awesome experience with the van! Scott was great at promptly answering questions when we had them and the van was just right to road trip and park. Easy to maneuver, great safety features, and convenient for general creature comforts. Really appreciated the experience and would absolutely rent again!

Our camper van rental experience was a pre retirement trial for my wife, our precious lil Yorkie & me. We are new to the van life and this was our first time driving & living out of a camper van. The trip exceeded our expectations on many levels from putting together a list of ideas & “to do’s” for our future custom camper van to the overall positive learning experience thanks to our incredibly insightful and gracious host. Scott was an exceptional host, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the operation of the van inside & out. During our trip, Scott would respond to our text questions promptly, which was very comforting to know he was there for us if needed.

Mashamoquet Brook State Park, CT, United States
The park sits off U.S. Route 44 in Pomfret, about 50 miles (roughly 1 hour) east of Hartford and 45 miles (about 1 hour 15 minutes) north of New London. From Providence, Rhode Island, it is about 35 miles and under an hour via I-395 and Route 44. RV drivers should note that Route 44 is a two-lane rural highway with rolling grades and some tight village centers, and the park's internal roads and campground loops are narrow and wooded, which can be challenging for larger rigs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Bradley International Airport (BDL) near Hartford.
