Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, fully open campground services, and the best conditions for hiking, mountain biking and Elk River fishing. July and August are the peak months and reservations fill quickly, so RV travellers should book well in advance. Shoulder weeks in late May, early June and mid-September bring cooler nights, fewer crowds and often better availability, though some facilities may run on reduced service. Winter access is limited and the campground is closed outside the operating season.

We had the most wonderful weekend using Jessalynn’s trailer. Everything functioned great, it was so well stocked for camping, and the host communication and instructions were great.

Mount Fernie Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is located 3 km south of Fernie on Highway 3, an easy final approach for RVs on a paved highway. Fernie is about a three hour drive from Calgary, roughly 300 km via Highway 3 over Crowsnest Pass, which includes a long mountain grade that RV drivers should plan for with engine and brake checks. Cranbrook is about 100 km west on Highway 3 and has the nearest regional airport (Canadian Rockies International, YXC) for fly-and-rent trips, while Calgary International is the nearest major airport. There are no tunnels on the route, but mountain weather can bring snow and ice on Crowsnest Pass well into spring and early fall.
