Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the best conditions for paddling, beachcombing, and shellfish harvesting in Kilisut Harbor. July and August are peak season, so reservations fill quickly for the limited campsites. May, June, and September are excellent shoulder months with mild days, fewer crowds, and easier booking. Winter visits are possible thanks to year-round access, but expect cool, damp weather and short daylight hours.

Kilisut Harbor is a sheltered saltwater bay ideal for paddling and small-boat cruising. The park offers a boat launch, a dock, and several mooring buoys. Calm, protected waters make it a good choice for beginner paddlers.
Mystery Bay is a popular spot for harvesting clams and Dungeness crab along the tideflats. Check current Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife seasons and shellfish safety advisories before harvesting.
Anglers cast for salmon, rockfish, and flounder from the dock or from small boats launched at the park. A Washington fishing license is required.
The shoreline and adjacent wetlands attract great blue herons, bald eagles, kingfishers, and a wide variety of shorebirds. Bring binoculars and scan the tideline during low tide for the best viewing.
Fort Flagler sits at the north end of Marrowstone Island, about 15 minutes from Mystery Bay. The park preserves early 20th-century coastal artillery batteries and offers miles of beach, bluff trails, and views of Puget Sound.
Shaded picnic areas with tables sit just steps from the water's edge. The setting is well suited to family meals between paddling or shellfish outings.
Victorian-era Port Townsend is about 30 minutes north and offers historic architecture, waterfront shops, and the Northwest Maritime Center. It makes an easy half-day outing from the campground.
Very friendly and accommodating host. The camper was in great shape. Thanks so much for making our trip that much better. Will definitely rent again in the future. Highly recommended 👍.

Mystery Bay State Park, WA, United States
The park is about a 2-hour drive from Seattle via the Edmonds-Kingston ferry and State Route 104, then north on State Route 19 and Flagler Road onto Marrowstone Island. From Port Townsend it is roughly a 30-minute drive south and east across the Port Hadlock causeway. RV drivers should note the narrow, winding rural roads on Marrowstone Island and the low-speed residential zone through Nordland, and large rigs should plan ferry reservations in advance because of length-based fare tiers. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Seattle-Tacoma International, about 2.5 to 3 hours away depending on ferry timing.
