July and August are peak season with the busiest campground and beach, so reservations should be booked well in advance. May, September, and early October offer cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fall color through the hardwoods. Winters are cold and snowy, and many seasonal services close, though the park itself stays open for day use.
