Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, the greenest trails, and the best swimming conditions at the lakes. Late May and September are strong shoulder options for RV travellers who want cooler hiking temperatures, fewer people, and easier parking at the trailheads. Early October brings Acadian hardwood fall colour around the lakeshore. Winter access is limited to day use on snow-covered trails, and facilities are reduced.

First Lake Trail is a flat lakeside walking path that loops along the shore of First Lake in Lower Sackville. It connects to a community trail network and is suitable for short strolls and leashed dogs.
Second Lake offers a quieter, more forested set of trails through Acadian hardwood and softwood stands. Expect gentle terrain with roots and a few rocky sections.
Informal picnic areas sit near the shoreline with views over the lakes. It is a practical midday stop for RV travellers moving between Halifax and the Annapolis Valley.
The calm lakes are suitable for canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards launched from shore. There is no formal boat ramp, so hand-carry craft work best.
The mixed wetlands and forest around the lakes host songbirds, waterfowl, and small mammals. Spring and early summer mornings offer the most active birding.
Halifax Waterfront is about 20 to 25 minutes south and pairs well with a morning at the park. RV drivers should use peripheral lots rather than attempting downtown street parking.
Peggy's Cove lighthouse is roughly an hour southwest through St. Margarets Bay. The drive is paved throughout and has designated RV-friendly parking at the visitor centre.
We had the best time! The van was so cozy, we slept amazing! Dean and Tanis have thought of everything. It was so easy to get around and they were very helpful with directions and tips for our trip. We would rent this van again over and over that was so much fun. We called it our house.

We had a great time travelling around Cape Breton in this van! It had everything we needed and ran great. We definitely could have done a full week or more but we were happy with the time we had. Dean and Tannis were awesome and helped us out with whatever we needed. Thanks again!

We were looking for the ability to be flexible on our trip and this met all the requirements! It was a fabulous way to travel! I would highly recommend using Caroline's camper van to anyone!
Mary D. - Sep 2025
Caroline was an amazing host. The unit was very well stocked. She promptly (and patiently) answered our many questions. She was even available the next day so we could return and retrieve some items we left behind.

Sackville Lakes Provincial Park, NS, Canada
The park is in Lower Sackville, about 20 to 25 minutes north of downtown Halifax via Highway 102, and roughly 15 minutes from Bedford. Halifax Stanfield International Airport is about 25 minutes northeast, which makes the area practical for fly-and-rent RV trips. Access roads are standard paved suburban streets with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades, so any Class A, Class C, or travel trailer can reach the trailheads. RV drivers should note that on-site parking is a shared day-use lot rather than dedicated large-vehicle parking, so longer rigs should arrive outside peak weekend afternoons.
