The Sandhills Trail loops through upland pine forest and offers a quiet walk with chances to spot gopher tortoises and songbirds. The track is mostly flat with a soft surface. It starts from the main park road with parking suitable for tow vehicles.

The park provides a boat ramp and river access for kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats on the blackwater Suwannee. Paddlers can explore downstream toward springs or upstream to the Withlacoochee confluence. Outfitters in nearby Live Oak offer rentals and shuttles.
Anglers target largemouth bass, catfish, redbreast sunfish, and bream from the banks or by boat. A Florida freshwater fishing license is required for adults. Shoreline access is available near the boat ramp and overlook areas.
A short walking path leads to a pioneer cemetery and the site of the vanished 19th century town of Columbus. Interpretive panels describe the steamboat era settlement. The walk is flat and shaded.
The park connects to the Florida National Scenic Trail, which follows the Suwannee River for long stretches through North Florida. Day hikers can sample a few miles out-and-back for bluff views. Longer thru-hiking sections extend well beyond park boundaries.
The mix of river, floodplain, and upland habitats supports deer, wild turkey, barred owls, and a variety of warblers and woodpeckers. Early morning at the overlook and along quiet trails offers the best viewing. Binoculars are recommended.

Suwannee River State Park, FL, United States
The park sits just off U.S. 90 near Live Oak, Florida, about 13 miles west of Live Oak and roughly 3 miles off Interstate 10 at Exit 275. Tallahassee is about 90 minutes to the west and Jacksonville roughly two hours to the east, making fly-and-rent trips easy from either airport. Access roads are flat, paved, and RV-friendly with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades. RV drivers should still watch for low-hanging branches on interior park roads and tight turns near some campsite loops.
