Best time to visit Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

March through May and October through early November offer the most comfortable RV weather, with warm days, cooler nights, lower humidity, and fewer biting insects than mid-summer. Summer brings peak crowds, higher humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and an active hurricane season that runs June through November. Winter is mild and uncrowded, making it popular with snowbirds who book extended stays. Spring break weeks in March fill the RV resort quickly, so reservations should be secured well in advance.

  • Coastal Dune Lakes Paddling Easy

Topsail Hill protects three of Florida's rare coastal dune lakes, including Morris Lake, which occasionally connects to the Gulf. Kayaks and canoes are welcome, and the calm, tannin-stained water offers excellent birdwatching and photography.

  • Multi-Use Paved Trail Easy
    RV parking available

A paved multi-use trail runs through the preserve, connecting the campground, day-use area, and beach boardwalks. It is suitable for walking, jogging, cycling, and strollers, with trailhead parking at the main day-use lot.

  • Morris Lake Nature Trail Easy

This scenic hiking route winds through pine flatwoods, scrub, and wetlands to the shores of Morris Lake. Interpretive signs highlight the dune-lake ecosystem and native plant communities.

  • Campbell Lake Hiking Trail Moderate

Campbell Lake Trail leads through sandhills and pine forest to another of the preserve's coastal dune lakes. The out-and-back route is a favorite for birdwatching and spotting white-tailed deer in the early morning.

  • Bicycling the 30A Corridor Easy
    RV parking available

Cyclists can ride directly from the park onto the Timpoochee Trail, a paved path that parallels Scenic Highway 30A for nearly 20 miles. The trail connects Topsail Hill to beach towns such as Seaside, Grayton Beach, and Rosemary Beach.

  • Fishing and Surfcasting Easy

Anglers can surf fish along the Gulf shoreline for species such as pompano, redfish, and whiting. Freshwater fishing is also permitted in the coastal dune lakes with a valid Florida freshwater fishing license.
