Late June through August is the prime window, when Wasa Lake's shallow waters warm up for swimming and the surrounding grasslands are lush. During June and July, visitors can enjoy a spectacular diversity of wildflowers and birds, making early summer ideal for nature-focused RV trips. Shoulder seasons in May and September bring cooler nights and thinner crowds, with easier campsite availability for RVers who can tolerate chillier lake temperatures. Winter visits are limited since the campground and most services close after the operating season.

Wasa Lake offers shallow, warm water ideal for family swimming. A buoyed swimming area keeps swimmers separated from waterskiers, who must use the skier's beach accessed via the Horseshoe day-use areas. bcparks.ca/wasa-lake-park/
Wasa Lake is a popular motorized water sports destination in the East Kootenays. The lake provides waterskiing opportunities, with a dedicated skier's beach via the Horseshoe day-use areas, and there are windsurfing opportunities on Wasa Lake. bcparks.ca/wasa-lake-park/
A paved multi-use path loops around the lake and connects the campground with the surrounding community, making it one of the most RV-friendly cycling spots in the region. Bicycles with electric assist motors are permitted on signed or designated trails within Wasa Lake Park, provided they meet the BC Parks cycling guidelines. bcparks.ca/wasa-lake-park/
A dedicated cycling area lets younger campers ride safely within the park. A children's bike park is located within the campground at the south end, near site 89, for the use and enjoyment of families staying in the campground. bcparks.ca/wasa-lake-park/
The park protects rare Rocky Mountain Trench grasslands with unusual bird and plant life. Bunchgrass meadows host unique species such as curlews and sharp-tailed grouse, and June and July bring a spectacular diversity of wildflowers and birds. bcparks.ca/wasa-lake-park/
Fort Steele Heritage Town is a restored 1890s townsite about 30 minutes south of the park. The site offers living history exhibits, stagecoach rides, and steam train tours accessible via a large vehicle parking area suitable for RVs.
Calm conditions make Wasa Lake well suited to canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards launched from the day-use beaches. Anglers target rainbow trout and other warm-water species, and a provincial freshwater fishing licence is required.
