Spring (April to early June) and fall (late September through October) are the most comfortable months for visiting York River State Park, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and active birdlife along the tidal marshes. Summer is warm and humid with afternoon thunderstorms and peak trail use, so arriving early helps with parking for larger rigs. Winter stays mostly open for day use and offers quiet trails, though trail conditions can be muddy after coastal storms. Shoulder seasons also tend to have better availability at nearby full-hookup RV parks in the Williamsburg area.

A network of wooded trails winding down to Taskinas Creek and the tidal marsh. The loops combine easy boardwalks with moderate ravine climbs and connect to the visitor center parking area.
A popular multi-use trail through hardwood forest above the York River. It is shared with mountain bikers and hikers and features rolling terrain and overlooks.
An easy walk leading to open views of the York River from a sandy beach and bluff. It is one of the park's shortest trails and a good stop for families.
Paddlers can launch car-top boats from the park's creek landing to explore tidal marsh and estuary habitat. Guided interpretive paddles are offered seasonally by park staff.
The park offers shoreline and pier access for saltwater and freshwater fishing on the York River and interior ponds. Blue crabs can be caught seasonally from the river shoreline.
A short, flat loop around a small freshwater pond popular for birdwatching and youth fishing. The trail is accessible and suitable for all skill levels.
Designated multi-use trails accommodate horseback riding through upland forest. Trailer parking and primitive equestrian camping are available by reservation.
The park is a convenient base for visiting Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, and Yorktown Battlefield. All three sites are within a 30 minute drive and offer large vehicle parking.
Nicholas was wonderful to work with. We felt very comfortable with his instructions. Definitely recommend him for your future camping adventures!!

Nicholas was excellent with communication. He gladly answered all my questions without hesitation. The camper REALLY has all you would need for camping, including hand soap, dish soap and body wash. He hooked it all up for us so when we got there all we had to do was unpack. There were 5 of us and I thought we would fit without issue, however, it was tight. But we did not spend much time in there so it was ok. I would (and likely will) definitely rent from Nicholas again. We had a great time.

Experience with the camper was great! It was as described and prepared (clean!). Communication was great with the host as they were always available. Would recommend booking this camper!

Super quick communication, camper was clean, worked with me on delivery and pick up which was great. All in all we would definitely rent from her again. The camper was perfect for what we needed.

York River State Park, VA, United States
The park entrance is off Croaker Road at Exit 231B from Interstate 64, about a 15 minute drive from Williamsburg, 45 minutes from Norfolk, and roughly 2.5 hours southeast of Washington, D.C. RV drivers should note that the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-64 prohibit propane cylinders over certain sizes and restrict fueled equipment, so check VDOT tunnel restrictions before traveling from the south. Access roads inside the park are paved but narrow in spots, and the main day-use lot has limited long-vehicle turnaround, so trailers are easier to stage at nearby campgrounds. Richmond International Airport (RIC) and Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (PHF) are the closest fly-and-rent options.
