Its Wagon Wheel loop is a modern campground shaped in a circle, set back in the woods with a paved pad on each site, while the Riverfront loop is known for close-up views of freighters on the shipping channel. Private options fill out the mix. Saint Clair RV Resort is a 220-acre Thousand Trails property with wooded terrain and a small flowing river, about five miles from the St. Clair River. Algonac State Park is booked through the Michigan DNR system. Campsites, overnight lodging and harbor slips can be reserved 6 months to the date of arrival in advance at MiDNRReservations.com or by calling 1-800-447-2757, and a non-refundable reservation fee applies. Summer weekends at Wagon Wheel and Riverfront often go quickly once the window opens for the target date. Private parks book directly. Northpointe Shores RV Resort takes reservations by phone at 586-250-2800 or through premiercampground.com, and holiday weekend reservations require a three-day minimum. Port Huron KOA Resort books on the KOA site or by phone. Saint Clair RV Resort is bookable through Thousand Trails, and Dancing Fire Glamping & RV Resort books through its own site.

What to expect on site

Expect a mix of state park character and resort-style private parks. At Algonac State Park, amenities include potable water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, a sanitation dump station, and sites that generally accommodate trailers or RVs from 40 to 48 feet, each with a parking spur, table, fire ring and grate. The Wagon Wheel loop is wooded and set back from the river; Riverfront sites are more open with direct water views, and the north section has full-hookup sites. Private parks skew toward full hookups and paved pads. Northpointe Shores offers 36 paved sites with full hookups, 50/30/20 amp service and courtesy lighting on landscaped grounds near Anchor Bay.
