Fort McAllister Historic Park sits on 1,725 acres along the Ogeechee River in Richmond Hill, Georgia, just south of Savannah near I-95. The park is home to the Confederacy's best-preserved earthwork Civil War fortification, which withstood seven Union ironclad attacks before falling in 1864 to end General Sherman's March to the Sea. A Civil War museum with artifacts and films is on-site, making this a destination for both history enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. The campground offers 67 RV and tent sites with full hookups including 30-amp and 50-amp electrical, water, and sewer connections, with pull-through sites available for big rigs. Amenities include showers, laundry facilities, a dump station, grills, picnic tables, a playground, and a general store stocked with firewood. Anglers and boaters will appreciate the boat launch and fishing dock on tidal Redbird Creek, while hikers can explore scenic trails draped in Spanish moss through coastal salt marsh. The Southeast Coast Saltwater Paddling Trail is accessible from the park. Pets are welcome throughout the grounds. Surrounded by towering live oaks and marsh vistas, with the Golden Isles and historic Savannah just a short drive away, Fort McAllister Historic Park offers a uniquely immersive blend of Southern history and Georgia coastal nature.
