Spring (March through May) and fall (October through November) are the most comfortable months for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and active wildlife along the marsh trails. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and heavy mosquito activity, though the campground pool and shaded loops help offset the heat. Winter is mild and quieter, making it a solid shoulder season for snowbirds heading to or from Florida. Reservations fill quickly around spring break and major holidays, so book early for peak weekends.

Sandpiper Nature Trail is an easy one-mile loop through maritime forest and salt marsh with boardwalks and an observation deck. The trail is ideal for spotting fiddler crabs, herons, and painted buntings in season. Trailhead parking near the visitor center accommodates RVs.
Big Ferry Interpretive Trail is a three-mile loop passing Civil War earthworks, a moonshine still site, and two observation towers over the marsh. The trail is mostly flat but can be muddy after rain. Interpretive signs highlight the island's natural and cultural history.
Avian Loop Trail is a short birding-focused path near the campground popular for migratory songbirds in spring and fall. Painted buntings are a highlight from April through July. The loop connects directly to the campground, so no separate parking is needed.
The park operates a seasonal swimming pool open to registered campers and day-use visitors during summer months. It provides a welcome break from coastal Georgia heat and humidity. The pool is located within walking distance of the campground loops.
Skidaway offers an on-site geocaching course and Junior Ranger activities that cover coastal ecology, wildlife identification, and local history. Families can pick up materials at the visitor center. Activities are self-guided and spread across the main trail network.
Wormsloe Historic Site sits about 7 miles from the park and features a famous 1.5-mile oak avenue, tabby ruins, and a colonial life demonstration area. It is an easy drive for RVers basing at Skidaway, though visitors typically use a tow vehicle since on-site parking suits cars best. Allow two to three hours for a full visit.
The UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium is located adjacent to the park and showcases coastal Georgia marine life in 14 tanks plus a touch tank. It is a short drive or bike ride from the campground. The facility is especially popular with families on rainy days.
Tybee Island beaches, lighthouse, and pier sit about 30 minutes from the park via Savannah. The drive is flat and RV-accessible, though beachside parking is limited for large rigs. Many campers leave the RV at Skidaway and take a tow vehicle for the day.
Easy pick up and drop off.

Skidaway Island State Park, GA, United States
The park is roughly 15 miles (about 25 minutes) southeast of downtown Savannah via Diamond Causeway, and about 20 miles from Tybee Island. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is the closest airport, approximately 30 miles north, and is convenient for fly-and-rent RV trips. Access is straightforward on flat coastal roads with no mountain grades or tunnels, but the Diamond Causeway includes the Skidaway Narrows Bridge, a fixed span that larger rigs should approach at posted speeds. RVers coming from I-95 typically exit at Savannah and follow Whitefield Avenue and Diamond Causeway directly to the park entrance.
