Caroline was an amazing host and was so helpful in preparation and as we embarked on our big Newfoundland campervan road trip. The van itself was so functional and had lots of great amenities including running water, a fan, and heat - all of which ran off of battery. It had a pan, pot, kettle, French press, plates, bowls, utensils, cooking tools, and propane for the camper stove. My husband is 6'1" and was able to fit on the bed for the most part, and the van kitchen is pretty tall (he just had to bend slightly). I am 5'10" and fit perfectly. We had a fantastic time exploring beautiful Newfoundland and couldn't be more grateful to Caroline for giving us the opportunity to borrow her camper. She answered all our questions and was so kind throughout the whole process!

Caroline's campervan was such a perfect way to explore Newfoundland. It served us just as well in national parks campgrounds, lookout points along the road, and freecamping sites by the sea. Being able to explore while having our "home" always with us was both useful and fun! Caroline was also extremely responsive and helpful before and throughout our stay.

Took this van for a weekend. Gotta say it was comfy, and cozy. There was more than enough space to put things. I was Supprised with how good the fan worked at nite, it actually got to cold at one point. Kyle the owner is easy to deal with. He’s very nice and helpful guy who replies fast and very easy to get ahold of if need be. I had an exceptionally good weekend and I’m sure the next person to take this van will 1000% enjoy there’s to.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Trout River?

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Newfoundland and Labrador, with no special RV endorsement or commercial license required for the motorhomes and travel trailers on RVezy. You must be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your identity right inside the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home license along with an International Driving Permit from your local auto association (usually under $25) and you are set to explore the Viking Trail. Most first-timers are surprised by how simple the process really is.

Is my RV rental protected if something goes wrong in Trout River?

Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Viking Trail with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers damage to the RV during your trip, and during checkout you choose the coverage level that fits you best, from a lower deductible plan to a more budget friendly option. Roadside assistance is just a phone call away if you get a flat on Route 431 heading into Gros Morne or need a battery boost at the Tablelands trailhead. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it removes the financial stress so you can focus on the icebergs, moose, and fjords of your Trout River RV trip.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Trout River?

Yes, RV delivery in Trout River is offered by many RVezy hosts and it is hands-down the easiest way to start your trip, especially if you are flying into Deer Lake Airport (YDF) about 90 minutes away. Filter listings by Delivery, and your host will tow the RV directly to Trout River Campground, Green Point Campground, or a private site, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Where are the best campgrounds near Trout River for RV camping?

RV camping in Trout River is centered around Gros Morne National Park, and you have several outstanding options within a short drive. Trout River Campground sits right on the edge of the village with 44 sites and stunning views of the Tablelands, while Green Point Campground offers oceanfront sites about an hour north. Lomond Campground is a quieter, forested spot on the East Arm of Bonne Bay with serviced sites and a boat launch. When is the best time to plan an RV trip from Trout River?

The sweet spot for a Trout River RV trip is mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit around 18 to 22°C, icebergs may still be drifting past the coast in June, and humpback whales feed offshore through August. July and August are peak season with the warmest weather and full park services, while early September brings stunning fall colours on the Long Range Mountains and far fewer crowds. Winters are snowy and cold (January averages around -10°C) and most park campgrounds close from mid-October to mid-May. Pro tip: aim for the last week of June, you will catch the wildflower bloom on the Tablelands without the August crowds.

I have never rented an RV before. How does it work in Trout River?

First time renting an RV? You are in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup or delivery, walking you through the propane, water, electrical, slide-outs, and dump procedures so you leave feeling confident. You can also message the host through the platform before booking with any questions about driving Route 431 into Trout River or the steep grades near Wiltondale. Choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Trout River for your first trip, they handle a lot like a large van and park easily at Gros Morne trailheads. Pro tip: build in an extra hour at pickup so you can ask every question without feeling rushed.

What happens if I break down or need help on the road near Gros Morne?

You are never alone out there: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are at the Tablelands parking lot or pulled over on Route 430 near Sally's Cove. The service covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service centre, with Deer Lake and Corner Brook being the main hubs for heavier repairs. Cell coverage is solid in Trout River, Woody Point, and Rocky Harbour but can drop in remote stretches of the park. Pro tip: download offline maps for the Northern Peninsula before you leave Deer Lake.

What are the best road trip routes from Trout River?

An RV road trip from Trout River puts some of Canada's most spectacular drives at your doorstep. Head north on Route 430 (the Viking Trail) about 350 km to L'Anse aux Meadows, the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America, stopping in Port au Choix and Gros Morne's northern trails along the way. South, you can reach Corner Brook in 2 hours and the Port aux Basques ferry to Nova Scotia in about 4.5 hours, opening up a full Atlantic Canada loop. East across the island, St. John's is a 7-hour drive packed with scenic pullouts. Pro tip: the Woody Point to Norris Point ferry shortcut saves an hour around Bonne Bay in summer.

What should I budget for fuel on a Newfoundland RV trip from Trout River?

Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but it is easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhome rentals near Trout River average 18 to 22 litres per 100 km, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, and campervans can get as low as 12 to 14 L/100 km. Newfoundland gas prices are regulated weekly by the provincial Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities, so check the current maximum prices before you go and budget accordingly. The closest full service stations to Trout River are in Woody Point and Rocky Harbour. Pro tip: fill up in Deer Lake before heading into the park, prices are usually a few cents cheaper there than in the smaller coastal villages.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Trout River?

Reserve early and you will be golden. Parks Canada opens reservations for Gros Morne campgrounds (Trout River, Green Point, Lomond, Berry Hill, Shallow Bay) every January through the Parks Canada Reservation Service at reservation.pc.gc.ca, and the most popular oceanfront and Tablelands-view sites at Trout River Campground often book out within days for July and August. For private parks like Gros Morne/Norris Point KOA, aim for 3 to 4 months ahead in summer. Shoulder-season trips in June or September are much easier to piece together last minute. Pro tip: if a Trout River site is full, grab a Lomond site instead and day-trip to the Tablelands, the drive is gorgeous.

What are driving conditions like around Trout River and Gros Morne?

Driving in and around Trout River is genuinely enjoyable, with paved, well-maintained two-lane highways and light traffic by mainland standards. Route 431 from Wiltondale into Trout River is a scenic 50 km drive with a few moderate grades and curves near the Tablelands, easily handled by any RV with steady speed. Watch for moose, especially at dawn and dusk, this is one of the highest moose-density areas in North America. Fog can roll in along the coast, so headlights on and easy speeds are smart. Pro tip: check road conditions on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador's 511 system before long drives, particularly in shoulder season when overnight frost is possible.
gov.nl.ca/ti/highway-info/road-conditions/

What hookups and amenities can I expect at Trout River area campgrounds?

You will find a good mix of options. Trout River Campground in Gros Morne offers unserviced sites with potable water taps, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and a kitchen shelter, while Lomond and Berry Hill add electrical hookups at select sites. For full hookups (water, 30/50-amp power, sewer) head to Gros Morne/Norris Point KOA in Rocky Harbour or Juniper Campground in Pasadena. Dump stations are available at Trout River, Berry Hill, and along Route 430 at the Visitor Centre. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving the campground, water taps are seasonal and the next reliable fill is often 30+ km away on the Northern Peninsula.

What features and amenities come with a typical RV rental in Trout River?

Most motorhome rentals in Trout River come fully outfitted for a comfortable Newfoundland adventure: a real bed (often a queen), a kitchen with a stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette seating, propane heating, and air conditioning. Class C and larger units typically include seatbelted seating for 4 to 6 travellers and a generator for off-grid stays at boondocking spots near the Tablelands. Many hosts include linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor chairs in the base price. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in the park, so plan to unplug. Pro tip: ask your host if a Starlink unit is included, it is becoming a popular add-on for remote Gros Morne stays.

How does payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy booking in Trout River?

Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay for your booking through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host, so your reservation and money are protected end to end. The security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before your trip, then released after a smooth return as long as there is no damage or policy issue. To avoid any hiccups, do a quick walk through video with your host at pickup and drop off documenting the RV's condition, fuel level, and odometer. Pro tip: return the RV with grey and black tanks emptied at the Gros Morne Visitor Centre dump station and the fuel level matched to pickup, that combo earns five star reviews and protects your deposit.

Can I take my Trout River RV rental on the ferry or across to mainland Canada?

Yes, and it opens up an incredible Atlantic Canada loop. Marine Atlantic operates year round ferries from Port aux Basques (about 4.5 hours south of Trout River on Route 1) to North Sydney, Nova Scotia, plus a seasonal Argentia to North Sydney route, both fully RV accessible with reservations strongly recommended in summer. Cross province travel within Canada is allowed with host approval on RVezy, so message your host before booking if you plan to ferry off the island. Travel outside Canada and the continental United States is not permitted. Pro tip: book your ferry the same day you book your RV, summer sailings with RV length berths fill up months in advance.
