Edmonton International Airport is 401 km (250 miles) north, roughly 3.5 hours away. RV travelers should note that RVs over 4,550 kg are restricted on the Icefields Parkway. Snow tires or chains are legally required from November 1 to March 31. The Trans-Canada Highway through the park is generally well-maintained, though some narrow sections exist. No RV parking is available in downtown Banff; park at campgrounds or designated lots.

For fewer crowds and excellent hiking conditions, visit June, September, or early October when temperatures range from 8-20°C (46-68°F). Spring (April-May) is unpredictable with lingering snow and some roads still closed.

Johnston Canyon is one of Banff's most popular trails, featuring metal catwalks built into canyon walls overlooking rushing water and waterfalls. The easy 1.2 km lower falls trail is accessible for most fitness levels, while the 2.7 km upper falls trail adds more challenge. Lake Louise is an iconic turquoise glacial lake surrounded by the Victoria Glacier and towering mountain peaks.
