Late May through early October offers the most reliable conditions for RV travel and trail use, with dry surfaces, long daylight, and mountain temperatures in a comfortable range. July and August are peak season, so expect busy trailheads in Park City and warmer afternoons. September and early October deliver cooler air, fall color in the aspens along Silver Creek, and lighter crowds. Winter brings snow cover that supports cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, but trailhead parking and services are limited.
Snow covered; used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Trailhead parking may be unplowed.
Winter conditions; snow on trail.
Mud season; surface can be soft as snow melts.
Variable, with late snow possible at higher elevations.
Trail conditions improve; creeks run high.
Prime riding and hiking weather.
Peak season; watch for afternoon thunderstorms.
Warm and generally dry; monsoon storms possible.
Cooler and less crowded; early fall color.
Crisp weather; first snowfall possible late month.
Transition to winter; snow can close informal parking areas.
Snow covered; cross-country skiing and fat biking only.
The western half of the trail offers a scenic, gentle-grade ride through Silver Creek Canyon between Park City and Wanship. Road and gravel bikes both handle the crushed-limestone surface well. Trailhead parking in Park City can accommodate passenger vehicles and smaller RVs.
Coalville offers a mid-trail access point with restrooms and a parking area suitable for day trips. The flat grade makes this section family-friendly and accessible for all fitness levels.
The trail ends near Echo State Park and Echo Reservoir, where rainbow trout and smallmouth bass draw anglers. The state park offers boat ramps and day-use areas.
The midsection of the trail winds alongside the Weber River and open ranchland, providing level footing ideal for horseback riding. Equestrian use is permitted throughout the corridor.
The snow-covered grade becomes a quiet cross-country skiing and snowshoeing route once winter storms arrive. Access is easiest from the Park City trailhead when plowing allows.
Rockport State Park is the closest full-service RV camping option to the trail, just south of Wanship along Highway 32 on Rockport Reservoir. It offers reservoir access, developed campsites, and convenient trail entry from the north end of the reservoir.
The western trailhead sits near Park City's historic Main Street, a former silver mining hub with museums, shops, and restaurants. Large RV parking is limited downtown, so park at designated lots near the trailhead and walk in.
Great experience! Perfect for those who dont want to hassle with pulling a trailer. They set you up with everything you need to have a great camping trip with a fully stocked motorhome. We'll be renting again

Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail, UT, United States
The trail runs parallel to I-80 in northern Utah, with the western trailhead in Park City and the eastern end near Echo, about 35 miles east of Salt Lake City. From Salt Lake City International Airport, the main fly-and-rent option, the Park City trailhead is roughly a 45-minute drive via I-80 east and Kimball Junction. RV drivers should be aware of the steep eastbound climb from the Salt Lake Valley up Parleys Canyon on I-80, where grades reach about 6 percent and chain laws can apply in winter. Additional access is available from US-40 and from exits at Wanship, Coalville, and Echo.
