Best time to visit Jordanelle State Park

Late May through early October is the best window for RV travel, when mountain roads are clear, reservoir water levels are high, and the Hailstone campground is fully operational. July and August bring the warmest weather and peak boating conditions, but also the biggest crowds and the highest likelihood of reservation-only sites. June and September are strong shoulder-season choices with cooler nights, fewer visitors, and good fishing. Winter access is limited by snow and most campground loops close, though day-use for ice fishing remains possible.

Things to do at Jordanelle State Park

  • Boating and Waterskiing on Jordanelle Reservoir
    RV parking available

The 3,300-acre Jordanelle Reservoir is the centerpiece of the park and supports powerboating, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing. The Hailstone Marina offers a full-service boat ramp, slip rentals, and seasonal rentals. Large paved parking areas accommodate tow vehicles and trailers.

  • Fishing Easy
    RV parking available

Jordanelle Reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout and also holds smallmouth bass, brown trout, and yellow perch. Anglers fish from shore, boats, and the Rock Cliff boardwalks on the Provo River inlet. A current Utah fishing license is required.

  • Perimeter Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

A multi-use trail circles portions of the reservoir and connects the Hailstone and Ross Creek recreation areas. The route is used by hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers and offers open views of the lake and Mount Timpanogos. Trailhead parking at Hailstone can accommodate larger vehicles.

  • Rock Cliff Nature Boardwalks Easy
    RV parking available

The Rock Cliff area features elevated boardwalks winding through a cottonwood riparian zone along the upper Provo River. The short, flat paths are family-friendly and offer excellent wildlife and bird watching. A day-use parking lot serves the nature center area.

  • Paddleboarding and Kayaking Easy
    RV parking available

Calm morning water on the reservoir and the protected Rock Cliff arm of the Provo River make Jordanelle popular for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. Non-motorized launching is available at multiple day-use areas. Rentals are typically available seasonally at Hailstone Marina.

  • Swimming at Hailstone Beach Easy
    RV parking available

A designated swim beach at the Hailstone day-use area offers sandy shoreline access and shallow entry. Restrooms, picnic pavilions, and large parking lots are within a short walk. Swimming is at your own risk, no lifeguards on duty.

  • Wildlife Viewing Easy
    RV parking available

The park supports mule deer, elk, moose, bald eagles, osprey, and a variety of waterfowl, especially around the Provo River wetlands at Rock Cliff. Dawn and dusk are the most productive viewing windows. Bring binoculars and stay on designated trails and boardwalks.

Rodrigo and Family were amazing! We came in to visit Family all the way from Australia and we’re looking for a reliable and reasonable Rv to rent to go to Yellowstone. The RV was super clean, easy to drive and well stocked with everything you need. We would highly recommend using them for any type of RV rental. Their communication skills were fantastic all the way through.
