Late May through September is the best window, with warm temperatures ideal for swimming, paddling, and using the full campground with electric hookups. July and August bring the warmest lake water but also peak reservations, so midweek stays are easier. Early June and September are excellent shoulder seasons with fewer biting insects, cooler nights, and strong fishing. Fall brings prairie color and migrating waterfowl, while winter supports ice fishing and groomed snowmobile trails.

Loon Island Trail is a flat walking path reached by a causeway from the main park area. The loop passes through mature hardwoods and offers lake overlooks, interpretive signs, and a stone monument. RV drivers can park at the day-use lot near the causeway.
The park's sand swim beach on Lake Shetek is the primary day-use draw in summer. A large paved lot accommodates trucks towing trailers and Class A motorhomes, with picnic areas, changing rooms, and a fishing pier nearby.
Lake Shetek is known for walleye, northern pike, bluegill, and crappie fishing. Two public boat ramps in the park provide trailered boat access, and a fishing pier offers shore-based options near the campground.
A paved multi-use segment of the Casey Jones State Trail connects the park to the nearby town of Currie, passing prairie and farmland along the way. It is flat and family-friendly for cyclists and walkers, with trailhead parking inside the park.
The restored Koch Cabin and nearby Monument to the Slain interpret the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 and early settler history at Lake Shetek. Interpretive exhibits are a short walk from day-use parking suitable for RVs.
Canoeists and kayakers can explore the bays, islands, and Des Moines River outlet of Lake Shetek. Launch points include the main boat ramp and the beach area, with rental craft available seasonally at the park office.
The park's mix of tallgrass prairie, wetland, and wooded shoreline supports pelicans, herons, waterfowl, and songbirds. Boardwalks and trails near the campground provide accessible viewing within short walking distance of RV sites.
Great experience with first time using RVezy, pretty much cover everything you almost needed for camping. Very comfortable and roomy space for family of 4 plus 2 dogs.

Lake Shetek State Park, MN, United States
The park sits about 30 miles northeast of Worthington and roughly 50 miles east of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a drive of about an hour. From the Twin Cities it is approximately 170 miles southwest via US-169 and US-59, about a 3 hour trip. Roads are flat rural highways with no tunnels or mountain grades, making access straightforward for any size RV, though side county roads can narrow and crosswinds on the open prairie can affect tall rigs. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD).
