April through early June and September through October are the most comfortable months, with mild daytime highs in the 70s and 80s F and lower humidity than midsummer. July and August are hot, often topping 95 F, but they are peak season for swimming, boating, and water sports on Lake Whitney. Winter is mild and quiet, making it a strong shoulder-season choice for RVers seeking open campsites and easier reservations. Spring wildflowers and fall fishing runs are added draws for trip planning.

The park provides direct lake access for motorboats, personal watercraft, sailing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding on Lake Whitney. A boat ramp and courtesy dock are located inside the park, with RV-accessible parking near the launch.
A designated swimming area along the shoreline offers a sandy entry into the lake during the warmer months. Day-use parking is suitable for tow vehicles after RVs are set up at the campsite.
Lake Whitney is known for striped and white bass, crappie, catfish, and largemouth bass. Anglers can fish from the shoreline, the park fishing pier, or by boat, and a fish-cleaning station is provided for campers.
Several miles of multi-use trails wind through cedar, oak, and mesquite habitat with views of the lake bluffs. Trails are mostly flat to gently rolling and accessible from trailheads near the campground loops.
The park is a productive birding spot with bald eagles wintering on the lake, plus painted buntings, herons, and waterfowl during migration. Bring binoculars and check the shoreline and brushy uplands at dawn and dusk.
Shaded picnic sites with tables and grills overlook Lake Whitney and are popular for day trips from nearby Waco and Fort Worth. Several day-use lots have pull-through space that can fit a tow vehicle or smaller Class B or C RV.
Texas State Parks offer geocaching across the system, and Lake Whitney occasionally hosts ranger-led programs and stargazing nights. Check the TPWD events calendar before arrival to plan around scheduled activities. tpwd.texas.gov/calendar/
Dan and his teardrop are amazing!!! First - Dan - great communication, explained all the parts and best uses for the trailer, as well as any possible issues. Had all possible connectors, made sure everything was working, and that we were comfortable before handing the trailer over. Extremely accommodating when we needed to make changes! Second - Trailer - is awesome! Best sleep we have had camping (and we are glampers!), the microwave came in so handy when cooking, electrical hook-ups and plugs made everything so convenient, and the ceramic heater available to plug in made it comfortable inside while it was in freezing temperatures outside! We look forward to renting again! Also, so lucky this trailer is towable by our Honda CR-V!

Drive times are approximately 1 hour from Waco, 1.5 hours from Fort Worth, and 2 hours from Dallas or Austin. Roads to the park are flat to gently rolling with no tunnels or steep mountain grades, but RV drivers should watch for narrow rural shoulders, low-clearance bridges on alternate routes, and strong crosswinds on open stretches near the lake.
